GM Issues Recall Of 780,000Cars

It's not that there is a lot to read here but I'll summarize for you anyway :
There is a defect in the ignition lock on certain years of the Chevy Cobalt & the Pontiac-G5 . If you :
1] have a lot of extra weight on your keyring
and
2] drive fast over a bump
the combination of the above 2 can result in a sudden cut-off of the ignition for the car . This result is quick unexpected stops as well as failure of the air bags .
GM will replace the ignition lock for you without cost .
Every defect is weird when it 1st happens . This one at least makes sense .
Thanks for the article Petey.
Good public service announcement.
Sorry to hear this for GM, but at least they're fixing it!
My old old 1964 Buick Skylark would run without the key.
Sometimes, the more they "improve" something, the easier it is to screw up.
Verrrry crafty !
Here's the latest addition to this recall :
General Motors is expanding its ignition switch recall to add 824,000 cars sold in the U.S. between 2008 and 2011, the company said Friday.
Until today the recall included the Chevrolet Cobalt and HHR, the Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and Saturn Ion and Sky through model year 2007.
Now the company is including all model years of those vehicles because about 90,000 faulty switches were used to repair vehicles.
The new recall adds to the 1.4 million vehicles already recalled in the United States.
Some people might offer a snide remark about "Government Motors" not being overly concerned with the safety of the US car driving public . And some [maybe the Wall Street Journal ] think that GM's corporate culture is STILL about big fat cars instead of small efficient cars . All of the cars with this defect were small cars . GM took a long time to reveal the defect publicly ...
