Out in the Cold Again … Uhmm, make that "Still"
But they seem to know where they're safe, welcome, and, can get something to eat.
Not a bad deal when all it "costs" them is to allow a photo op.
Don't just do something stand there!
This one's for Dowser (but y'all can look too). This morning in my back yard. The woods are off to the right and past the fence.
Starling; I wouldn't harm a feather on his aggressive little head, but when he drops one on his own, parts of one those iridescent items make great wet flies for trout fishing.
I worry about this Red-bellied Woodpecker; I see her almost every day, but have not seen a male anytime I can recall.

My mother used to tell me; "Show me who your friends are and I'll show you who you are."
These are some of my friends.*

My mother is no longer with us, but if she were, I know she'd approve.
Great winter shots AMac, I'd love to have your back yard. Thanks for sharing these keep them coming.
The doe is so beautiful!!! She is asking you, "What?"
All of these are beautiful, each one a keeper... So glad you got to see them! I know you were cold!
Beautiful shots A.Mac.
Your squirrel looks like he/she is glowing.
Dowser,
I'm adding shots to a folder I'm comprising when you're ready for your book's imagery.
Hi Pat,
Always a pleasure when you come by. I agree about the glowing squirrel -- I might have over-exposed him -- well, his photo anyway.
That is absolutely wonderful!!! They are all so very beautiful! I love them...
When the contrast is great as with the white snow behind the dark starling, if I can get close enough, I spot meter on the bird and use a fill in flash. That enables detail that would otherwise be lost. It's a balancing act for sure and a trade-off in lots of instances.
The human eye has a much greater range in viewing high-contrast situations than do even today's multi-segmented camera light meters.
Your analysis is quite astute and adds much to the discussion -- for which I thank you.
I think the Woodpecker has her eyes on you Mac!!
You may be right tzia62, but I think she'd prefer a wood pecker.
See what a difference one little space between letters can make?
I know, "dirty old man."
I haven't always been old.
ROFL Gee, how did I know you would catch that???:-)
