I had a lady in Amarillo ask me one time if I was Native American. I guess it was because I have long hair and was wearing one of my pair of silver feather earrings (made by a Native American of course). I just told her my family had been in the country for several centuries and left it at that.
Thank you Kavika, can't wait to start it but need to do some research first especially on the materials to be used. I prefer to remain loyal to traditions. I am also looking for Hopi symbols which can be adapted into a stitch for the background snd this is where I am going to start
You know there is a band of ''white'' Indians in northern Minnesota. Light skinned, light hair and a lot of blue eyes. Rumor is that they mixed with the Viking.
Your welcome Steve. Deloria has written a number of outstanding books, ''Red Earth, White Lies'', is one of his very best. Another one that is great is, ''Custer Died for Your Sins''.
I've tried smudging with the sage but I don't know the exact ritual. I'm a rock hound so I have lots of those. I have feathers too, just collect them, don't use them. Don't really have sticks.
There are a lot more examples, but these are good for a start.
ROFL !! Good one Prez !! But, what about Italian/Indians ?
I like the Indian Time remark.
I might be a ______.
You can fill in the blank.
I had 7 out of 10... Maybe, that counts!

If your pow-wow luggage is hefty's and duct tape.
If your tennis shoes are beaded.
If your last word is always "aaaiiiiiyyyyeeeeee"
If you know what "Innit" means.

Giving directions by pointing with your lips.
Knowing what ''commodities'' are...

I'll post the link in our group!
No, people kept trying to put the Frybread into the pasta maker.
LOL, that could be a problem tzia.

And someone kept trying to make spaghetti into fry bread
sigh
Good answer Steve, left her guessing.
This is my kachina.
I have a lot of wolf in my house. They are my favorite animal.
Is the Kaschina Hopi or Navajo Steve?
how?
Also, men usually don't ask for directions but they do give them? That's odd
Navajos had Kaschinas too? I thought it was only the Hopis
Yes, the Navajo have them as well. The Hopi Kaschinas are the original ones Palma.
This is the Hopi ''Sun Kaschina''.
Palma, here is a link to the how and why of it.
These I know. I have this one on my to-stitch list
That's going to be beautiful Palma...

I'll have to ask my wife. She bought it for me. Mine is slightly different than the one in the picture.
Funny!
E.
Are you trying to ruin my already bad eyes? Wait, let me grab my camera, I want a picture of that.
I got 7. Hope that's good.
psst . . amb . . (how about with NO loin cloths? )
He, he he...funny!
:~)
Yup, it counts. Now you have to learn how to give directions by pointing your lips ambiv...
tzia, your being a bad girl again.
Happy you got a laugh out of it Larry.
HA !! Not yet!
But, but your not Indian Mike....
We start 'um young ambiv.
Hold on Mike, I'm thumbing through my Ojibwe/English dictionary...
Yup, there it is, Lithuanian Indian, with photo..
LOLOLOLOLOL...I love the headband, it's so, so, cool.
Well ambiv, he's still pretty young, so it's the only direction he knows
I hope this link works !
A very powerful video tzia. It's all over the internet...This is who we are, we are NOT mascots.
Have you alreadyseen it Kav?
Yes, I posted it in Anishinaabe a couple of days ago.
ooops . . . sorry I didn't see it. Should I take it down?
No, don't take itdown tzia...It should be up, and thanks for that.
You mean like they do up at Shiprock?
I've not been to Shiprock Steve. But most Indians will use their lips to point. Pointing with your finger is considered rude to many.
I knew that but my brother didn't. At the time, he was living in Farmington, NM and he would make fun of the way the Navajo pointed with their lips.
Shiprock is a sacred place.
I love my brother, but he is way more redneck than I.
Mike, read ''1491'' by Mann.

BTW, you look stunning in a headband.
Excellent choice Kavika. More history you won't learn in public education.
The book sure takes apart a lot of the stereotype of Natives.
One of the very best books is,''Red Earth, White Lies'' by Vine Deloria, Steve. Well worth reading.
I'll have to get that one.
Thanks Kavika.

If you have random feathers, sticks, rocks or sage bundles just lying around you r house You Might Be Native American
Read more atThereal question is, do you use them pat?
Have to get these. Thanks Kavika
You'll enjoy them Palma, great books.

LOL Kavika.... that photo of yours would be another JIP!
A rock hound!!! I love rocks.
LOLOLOL, there's more than one?
