Have you ever felt as if your insignificance would make you seek your 15 minutes of fame in a bizarre way ? Since you are a member of NT you can quickly achieve significance by writing or seeding an article . But if you didn't have that option would you be tempted to explore a more unpleasant way to seek significance ?
That is what some people do ... the ones in the linked video for example . And they did it not for a full 15 minutes of fame but in fact for only a few seconds of fame [slowed down in slo-mo to maybe 10 seconds ] . At least they did not have to undergo the indignity of eating something universally revolting such as what you might see on an episode of "Fear Factor " . But they did have to go against their usual preferences . The results are depicted for your perusal and enlightenment . If you have ever been confused about what disgust looks like you need not be confused anymore . Enjoy !
The looks on their face's were priceless.
I have long suspected that one can only fully understand certain states of mind by experiencing their opposites .
In this case understanding enjoyment & attraction can be better comprehended by experiencing disgust & repulsion .
There is a method to my madness . Why is everyone so obsessed with sweetness or saltiness ? How about sourness &/or bitterness ?
I make those kinds of faces every day-- when I take my medicine... UGH!
Dowser ,
Here is where I provide my out-of-the-box thinking as a service to my fellow NTers . I believe that people's attempts to overwhelm unpleasant tastes with pleasant ones [eg sweet to cover up bitter ] is a flawed approach .Instead of covering up a bad taste you should try to find its complementary flavor .
As a simple example : if your medicine is bitter you should add another unpleasant flavor [sour] instead of covering it up with sweetness . The Schweppes corporation proved this combination works by offering their Bitter Lemon beverage for many years . Of course this won't work if the unpleasant flavor is a complex one . But there is no reason you can't experiment ...
A simple way to get your mind off the cold weather ... eat something you hate the taste of !
I imagine that sometimes that doesn't work?
Actually this covering up of an unpleasant taste (usually too much of one of the basic tastes-- for example putting too much salt in something you're cooking) is done by many professional chefs. If there's two much of one of the basic tastes, they put in more of some other taste. (Or even more of two other tastes).
I have experience with this is smoothies (I make them a lot because you can pack a lot of nutrition in one glass full).
One of the most nutritious food is dark leafy greens-- Kale, Collards, Spinach. etc. But greens are generally bitter. Often the bitterness is not noticed, because the quantity is small in regular dishes-- for example, salads. (Also, dressings often have sour and salty overtones, even sweet ones). But in a green smoothie you can pack in a lot of greens in one glass.
One day I made an all greens smoothie-- only Kale and Collard greens. its was horrible-- terribly bitter. So I added sweet (an Apple)-- and it was great. (generally most vegetable smoothies have either an Apple and/or a carrot-- these provide sweetness to offset sour, bitter, etc).
For starters, I don't know how anyone can eat mayo straight - it's a dressing. Secondly, I wish I could eat grapefruits again - I loved them and especially their juice, but they react with my medications and can cause big problems. As for tomatoes, I cannot believe that ANYONE could hate tomatoes. My father used to eat them like apples, and I use them every which way - soup, salad, sandwiches, fried with eggs. Am I the only person who likes to have anchovies on his pizza?
