Carolina Chickadees in Pennsylvania? What's That All About?
Most likely, only the Chickadees themselves know their real names; but there is an explanation
John James Audubon named this bird while he was in South Carolina. The curious, intelligent Carolina Chickadee looks very much like a Black-capped Chickadee, with a black cap, black bib, gray wings and back, and whitish underside. Carolina and Black-capped chickadees hybridize in the area where their ranges overlap, but the two species probably diverged more than 250,000 years ago.

What's in a name?
It's all in the color and beauty, not the name.
I don't know if I can determine if the ones I see regularly are hybrids or not; they appear to be but I'm not sure.
Great shots Mac. As to why they're in Pennsylvania, that can be answered by a simple quotation. "I knew I shoulda turned left at Albequerque". Bugs Bunny, 1962. Obviously, the male was doing the driving and, of course, we never look at maps.
