Do you recognize this?
In going over some of my older shots I stumbled across this and can not for the life of me remember just when or where I got it. My first thought was that my daughter knowing how much I/we love these little critters sent it to me during my down time but she says no! I'm going to keep it but sure would like to know more about it.
This is an amazing photo tsula. I love it.
Isn't it, though? I hate to steal someone else's work but I just have to keep this even though I didn't take it. Ain't she a beauty though? We used to have a family of these up north every year near our pool. If I got to close they would dive bomb me and it was murder changing their feeders. Down here where you would expect to see them, we don't. We are in their flight path for their migrations though so we see them twice a year passing through!
That shot gets a triple WOW!
WOW!
WOW!
What a wonderful story and they are indeedvery specialand as much as I miss the Robins from there the Hummers are my favorites. Thanks for telling me! I have seen just one here and after feeding it never came back. The nectar we made turned rancid too fast in this heat and humidity so I stopped trying to feed them and got a bunch of red flowers but they still only come occasionally.
Absolutely marvelous, tsula! A real treasure.
Amazing. You have been truly blessed. It isn't often that Nature interacts with Man and for good reason, I have found.
What a lovely photo Tsula! Once in a while I get to see one of those little Hummingbirds.
Thank you Neetu and Mrs D. These are amazing critters. The picture is something special and while I hate stealing someone else's beautiful work I just can not let this one go.
As if I didn't have enough to contend with for the past few weeks, my ISP went down this morning and I thought that my modem had failed. A call to them showed that there was an outage in our area and the dumb thing just came back on line again! Hoooray!!
A perfect shot tsula! That is amazing.
Perrie, thank you for your kind words!!
Incredible stop motion shot . Thanks for posting this tsula .
Thanks Petey, I just wish that I could take credit for actually taking it but what the heck beauty is still beauty!!
They certainly are superb little beasties. I always had three feeders going would change them every third day no matter what. I had read that rancid fluids were pure poison to them so never took the chance of bringing them harm. The male's favorite spot was our cloths line. They, a pair, would have two eggs in their nest which was in a dense fir tree overlooking our pool so I was able to keep track of them all the time. We had two pair for a couple of years and the competition between them was hilarious. I really miss them a lot but do get an occasional look at a Ruby Throat. Thanks for your input.
We are right in the heart of the city and our ISP is our cable company. I have to rent their modem and they just never seem to be able to stay on line. They were off line for 2 hours again today and I constantly have to reset their modem. I tried having them come to the house to replace the modem but got told in no uncertain terms was that in order to replace the modem I would have to bring it into their office for a new one. It was all downhill from there. I found the manual reset for the thing and so I'll keep resetting the dumb thing until I burn it out. Mess with the old man and get a boat anchor.
I rent their modem for $4.50 @ month. I had bought a really good one but when they set me up here they insisted that I had to rent theirs with the agreement that they would service it. That was 5 years ago now. My daughter set up a wireless router so that her Mom could use an iPad she bought for her. Time to move over to AT&T, I guess.
Who, what for, and exactly why, please? Cryptic messages leave a lot to be desired!
tsula, I love it, too. However you acquired that photo, I'm glad you did! The facts about those birds are so amazing! The green seem to be the most prevalent here, and then a red-throat will show up and kick them all out..lol. So cute.
I don't understand either my dear friend Tsula. Maybe Mr. Russell will let us know.
When looking at the prolific offerings of Mr. Russell, Mrs D He might just have posted this in the wrong place. I can find nothing of our postings that could be construed as spam. Not a great lover of it at all myself. If I am wrong I hope he explains where and why.
I went back over the whole thing, RW, and am still at a loss. Could be that the gentleman does not like Hummers (Who the heck could not like Hummers?) and maybe, following your thoughts of derailment, wants us to talk about vultures?
Wow! I have never seen all of those different colors of Hummers here! Yes, it must have been spectacular!
tsula, I do recall seeing that pic before, at least it seems familiar. The fact that you acknowledged you don't recall the original author makes it fine in my mind to show it again. Glad you did! And, happy you're back in business with your computer!
Chloe, thanks for the reassurance. Truly. I hate to plagiarize anyone's work but this just struck a nerve but I did try to give credit! I/we love Hummers and when we moved here we figured that we would see more of them than we are. We are in their migration zone so we do see them twice a year but not even as much as when we lived in Ct.
We do not even want to go down the road of this, so called, computer but when my last one went south so fast I simply panicked and instead of having one built to my specifications I bought what was touted as a good replacement from the shelf. I could not stand the thoughts of a 3 or 4 week delay and I was back in business the next day. Couple a Made in China, literally, with the new Windows8, which has a terrible problem of backwards compatibility, and you can imagine my frustrations. Being basically housebound is one thing but having to deal with that imitation program does little for my blood pressure! Thanks for letting me whine!!
RW, I was hoping that 8.1 would resolve a lot of these problems but I can see that it will not. My old OS was XP-Pro and it was rock solid. In fact my old Dell is still sitting here in this room waiting for me to take the HD out of it and introduce it to a hammer which I haven't had the heart to do yet. I have approached Dell about building me a system, CPU only, as I have all of the original peripherals and they are in good shape right down to the 24" flat screen monitor and stereo sound. I figure that if I sweeten the pot enough I can get theWindows 7 XP Pro. Haven't heard back from them yet.
It's not whining to me!! I've always enjoyed your comments! The Hummers aren't very prolific here, anymore. I'm guessing it's a combination of things: fewer bees and fewer flower gardeners; less weather to support them. It's too bad, too. I especially miss the 'one' (unless all of that variety sound like that) I used to call George Jetson, a red-throat, because he sounded just like the ad and opener for that series. Your twice a year migration zone sounds great! I've only seen them once a year, and now, not at all.
I remember when you first had all of those problems your other computer that eventually crashed, and then your newer experiences with this computer and Win 8. The problems with these machines can be so immense, and sometimes I wonder if all of the security downloads are a large part of the problems! (anti-spyware and such) Yes, it is nice to be able to purchase from retailers--that's all I've ever done. Having one built does sound interesting, tho, and a lot cheaper. Waiting 3 to 4 weeks makes us think twice, tho.
All of the supposed must haves make me crazy. As usual MS want the whole market and is willing to squeeze everybody by whatever means they need. I have been using the Lotus programs since they first came out back ion the mid 80s and MS came up with a knockoff in their Excel. As soon as W8 came on the scene I started losing my Lotus capabilities until about month ago W8 had disrupted it so badly that I had to switch everything over to Excel. In talking to IBM about this they said that they were going to withdraw all of their business programs and stop supporting them in 2014. I have tried to find a direct substitute for their 123 worksheet program but there is just nothing out there so MS now owns the field.
That surprisingly is he first question I asked of Dell. Knowing that Dell is an OEM and got money for adding extraneous sample ware how much would they charge me to not put those programs on as I neither needed them nor wantedthem. Have not had a response to that one!
If I were smart enough and had the room I would try but that doesn't work for me. I admire your capabilities as it gives you an independence few of us can enjoy!
That's nice to have that capability, Raven Wing. You get exactly what you want and need, and don't have to pay for all the extra stuff.
I'm sure that they will but the question is at what price? Everybody I talk to questions my need of a 3 1/2" floppy drive but I, living in the past, use one frequently and so am looking for a stand alone USB drive which I shall attach this until I buy a new one and then to it as well. Best Buy has them I believe.
Thank you!!I don't feel so alone any more! I had so much stuff that I did as you that had to do with my work and other assignments that I was able to buy through our old purchasing dept. in bulk. When they went out of fashion I found that my Ophthalmologist used then for a computer controlled field vision test that he kept so I gave him about 500 of them. He likes me now!
I found a way to wrap them in heavy duty saran wrap which puts them in a moisture proof air tight package and have about 50 of them stored behind my TV stand. Hey, old is good!
If I remember correctly, I wrapped 10 to a bundle and when that was done I rewrapped them again in theopposite direction and stuck a piece of scotch tape where the folds came together. Bundles of 10 are just right.
