Hairstreaks and Painted Ladies! Huh?
Yesterday, I posted an article
http://thenewstalkers.com/forum/topics/intensification-of-the-familiar-fill-the-frame
in which (among others) was an image of a Hairstreak Butterfly. Perrie questioned whether the Hairstreak was, in fact, a Painted Lady Butterfly.
After recovering from the devastation of being thus challenged, I return today to vindicate myself.
Of course I'm kidding re: the "devastation" -- but, for the sake of accuracy
To err is human
to question my knowledge of butterflies
come on!!!

My cat would eat these . He's just that way ... sorry .
DAMN! I hate it when you are right! Yup, that is the little gal.
BTW really nice shot of her!
No worries; I'm working on a genetically modified carnivorous butterfly -- with Piranha-like feeding-frenzy collective-memory.
Too little, too late hmmmmmm all right; I thank you.
To forgive divine.
Cool pics! In 8th grade my art teacher used to call me her Butterfly Girl...I would only draw butterflies!
I did notice something odd with the flowers in the first pic...two of them look like cow faces! Or is it just me?
Moo ... that means yes to cow faces .
The "cow face" that some see in Milkweed flowers is valid. Most people never get close enough to them to notice -- but macro photography "intensifies the familiar," that ironically is only familiar to most people in a casual way.
Good observation Uptownchick!
And that ain't no bull!
That will teach me to read through these posts so quickly. I could have sworn that you wrote "cow feces" instead of cow faces. And I thought -- yep, honey, it's just you.
That certainly would have required poo-pooing.
The Hairstreak Butterfly seems really unusual to me..
Not as interesting as the Painted lady, but something about it catches my eye as very 'different.'
It could be the butterfly's eye which is proportionately large for its body; nature's way of making it look bigger than it it actually is.
That must be it. It is almost its whole head! And there is a 'bigger' effect as a result.
In contrast, the Painted Lady looks like she has a little human's face - eyes, nose and mouth...so cute.
Beautiful shots Mac! I haven't seen any butterflies so far this summer.
