Opening the Doors to Art : Santa Fe

Adobe architecture, lush and meticulously maintained greens intermixed with bright desert flowers line the street called Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Welcoming art enthusiasts and the casual tourist, collectors display vast and varied treasures in charmingly and elegantly designed galleries. Not only do they house intricate and impressive native American art and sculpture, but also numerous lithographs, fine photography, oil and watercolor paintings, traditional and contemporary artistry from around the world. Sauntering along this narrow and picturesque street is a unique experience, reminiscent of art galleries and boutiques in some other famous places, such as Mougins, France. One can always take a break from gallery hopping at one of the fine cafes and restaurants located right here. Impressive, quaint, and rich with New Mexican warmth and friendliness, I would definitely recommend a visit to this part of Santa Fe should you chance to stumble there, by accident or intent.

Stingy I am not, but I wouldn't want to bombard you with images that don't make sense now, would I? I had to break this little piece of Santa Fe off my main article as there was no way to fit it into a larger article. A lovely piece, actually a very big part of Santa Fe and the oasis in this desert!

Another place that is a kind of an Oasis with a lot of what looks to be the same themed art (maybe even by the same artists) is Eureka Springs, AR.

Great pics and description. You ought to be a travel writer3.gif ...

Hmmm, one never knows where an oasis might just show up! Did you go there then, Brolly? To the one in AR, I mean. Do they also have a lot of private art collections? I have heard that the art scene and galleries in Santa Fe are the third largest collection of art in the world, after New York and Paris. Maybe that is just a Santa Fe pov but it could be true, too.

Thank you for the compliment. I would love to be oneSmile.gif !

I am sure many of those bronze sculptures were made at Shidoni Foundry. That sculpture of the pig looks very familiar and I either saw it or a copy being made at Shidoni Foundry. I go to the Foundry now and then just to watch them make bronze castings. It's an amazing process.

Thank you, Neetu. Santa Fe has a very charming setting, seeming an oasis in the desert as you say. I particularly like the 'feel' of the last photo.

Just curious, did you find fewer art galleries such as these in Az.? Did you find NM, overall, a more inviting atmosphere compared to Az.?

Thank YOU, Chloe. I am glad you enjoyed the photos. I would have to say that there was something enchanting about the aura of NM in terms of art and its exposure and setting. The tone was refined as compared to the rustic charms of art in AZ, perhaps would be the right way to put it. Definitely fewer sophisticated art galleries in AZ and more of the vendors and museum shops and boutiques.

My Part II of Come Away with Me is up now..that gives you more of a feel of NM, I think.

Hi, Bro. I just went over to Eureka Springs, Ark, Google Street View. Very cool looking place. I wouldn't mind visiting there and exploring around for a week. I love places like that.

State motto: "New Mexico, Land of Enchantment". My mom always said "enchantment" was dust. "Grump, time to get the enchantment off of the furniture", she would tell me. I hate dusting. I had a fine collection that went back to 1978 but my house keeper ruined it.
