My lunch buddy
We have a lovely patio area that connects to our break room at work. The patio hangs over a small retention pond with a fountain. I love to lunch out there to enjoy the sunshine and peace. Yesterday, this beautiful guy decided to join me. He was the perfect lunch companion . . . not terribly chatty and a great listener.
I'm sorry for the poor resolution -- took this picture with my phone.
What a cool creature. He looks like he was only a few feet away. Very nice.
He was close enough for me to touch if I was so inclined. Startled me when he landed on the railing next to me. I think he wanted to share my sushi.
He's a great blue heron.
Blue Heron, I believe and a beauty he or she is.
It really is a very pretty place to take a breather. Besides the beautiful birds, we have a family of otter who live just across the pond (we see them mostly in the morning when it's cooler), lots of turtles, and unfortunately -- snakes.
We had a corn snake in our soda machine in the break room last year. We had the door propped open while the patio tables were being delivered and it must have sneaked in. When the vendor came to replenished the pop, the snake was hanging just above where you grab your pop can after dispensing. He must be a native Floridian because he didn't bat an eye, just grabbed the snake by the tail and tossed it out the door. I would still be running.
Great photo GeeGee. We have many Blue Herons around here and they are a real pleasure to watch.
Watch your sushi though...
