The Breakers

I spent last weekend in Rhode Island, and took a tour of The Breakers in Newport- the summer home of the Vanderbilts, now a National Historic Landmark. This home was constructed between 1893 and 1895, andis hands down the most obscenely extravagant demonstration of wealth that I have ever seen. Cameras are not allowed inside, so the two interiorpictures below are from Wikipedia. I took the exterior pictures, and obviouslydoctored them a bit.

If you are ever in Newport, this is one attraction not to miss. Tours are $20/person, but well worth the money.I doubt you couldsee anything like it anywhere else. More information, if anyone is interested:

We've got one of the Vandy's monuments to avarice in our neck o the woods as well. Drive by it and it's like the ghosts of the robber barons are all singing, "...all you little people take your hats off to me, I'm a rag time millionaire..."
