Summertime . . . and the livin' is easy

We have started our summer hours here at work. 10 hour days (which I work anyway), Monday thru Thursday with Friday's off. Which makes today my Friday.

The soft ocean breezes are whispering my name . . .

6702_discussions.jpg?width=750 A beautiful Florida sunrise. Enjoy.

A little Sam Cooke and his classic recording of ''Summertime''...

Sam Cooke's rendition of this song is one of my favorite. Thanks, Kavika!

Well, summer in my neck o the woods ain't exactly a cake walk through town but it sure beats most of the world.

Beautiful sunrise pic! Which reminds me of yet another tune.

I love the summer hours. We start in early May and end in August. Plus we get paid lunch hours during the summer. My employer rocks!

Love the slideshow, Tex. That orange sky is gorgeous.

I'm an early morning person, myself. Even on my days off, I'm up at 5 a.m. so I can sit on the lanai to enjoy my coffee and the sunrise.

Thanks for sharing your music.

For most of my working life, at least in the arena of wood butchery, I saw dawn five days a week. I'm a night person though and see more set than rise these days. Suits me fine. On my own schedule I end up painting and drawing in the early afternoon. Take a break and start back at about 9:30 PM and go till I cannot.

There is great beauty in both times of day. Heck, there is great beauty to be had at any hour.

Thank you as well for sharing the stunning Flarda rise. I've seen many of those. I worked the Disney World boom when I was a kid and prior to so many fools being down there. It was right nice during those times. Flat, but nice. Especially around Tallahassee.

best your way

I always think of this version...

That's a good song, no matter who does it!

It would be worth working 10 hour days to have Friday off! Especially in Florida! Smile.gif

Dang. That brings up memories of sitting on the sofa with my grand mama and mama on a warm summer eve in South Alabama. They were big fans of Porgy and Bess. Crikey. I can just about smell the magnolia and honeysuckle and hear those ol dogs barkin away down the road.

And, that is indeed a great tune.

My all time favorite version:

Billie Holiday. Happy sigh. Amazing. No matter who sings that tune, it makes me smile. It ran 'round and 'round in my head all day yesterday. Hummed it until my co-workers begged for mercy.Heading to the beach right now with my iPod and my much read, ragged "To Kill a Mockingbird." My daughter is reading it for school so I thought I'd dust it off and immerse myself.I hope you all have a wonderful Friday, my friends.

Have fun. Hard to beat Ms Lee.

She was the great aunt of my best friend when I was but a wee lad. Lived right up the road from my Grand Maw. We called her Dody. I have two signed first editions on my bookshelf. I may have to dust my copy off and re-read it now that you have inspired me.

Truth be told, I'm more of a Flannery O'Conner fan, but I do love Mockingbird. Oddly, it turned out a good friend of mine in Oregon was related to O'Conner. Her roots were in Gawguh and she had some fine stories about spending the summers at Flannery's House.

It's a small world.

Just gorgeous, Gee Gee.........I recently saw an interview with Audra McDonald who played the part of Bess for 8 months I think on Broadway. She said she loved the role, but that he voice was shot for around the same amount of time and she had to recover her strength as well. But that it was the best experience she has had to date. What a voice!!

I also enjoyed reading and listening to the other entries. Fascination..........

OK, rub it in. We have start Allergy Times, here, in Mildew, Ohio, where there are no jobs because Johnnie Boehner and his Re-Puritan cronies sent them all overseas to China to curry favors from their Billionaire bosses. They didn't know that you can purchase Curry in any grocery store.

Yes, serenity. We take it when we can get it, don't we, Neetu? Sitting on the beach is just the thing for healing a wounded spirit. With only the sounds of the waves, sea birds, and breezes in my ears, life's issues can be forgotten for a little while. It gave my spirit a much needed respite.

I returned home sunburned, sandy, and yes . . . serene.

Much love, my darling friend. I wish you peace.
