Maria Tallchief, America's First Prima Ballerina - American Indians in Ballet

Maria Tallchief was American's first Prima Ballerina. Tallchief the daughter of an Osage Chief conquered the ballet world with her beauty and grace.

She and her sister Majorie Tallchief founded the Chicago Ballet.

The strong tradition of American Indians in ballet is little known.

The top ballerina's were American Indians called the ''Five Moons''..They included,

Maria Tallchief (Osage), Majorie Tallchief (Osage), Moscelyne Larkin (Shawnee/ Peoria), Resella Hightower (Choctow), Yvonne Clouteau (Shawnee/Cherokee).

This is a very long article with many photos and video's. It worth reading and watching the whole thing.
