Landline to VOIP?
Yes, that's right I have a landline. Shocking is it not. Lately I have been considering going to VOIP (voice over Internet Protocol) service. I need a phone service that has 911 at home. One that I am considering converting to is OOMA. http://ooma.com/
I have looked at the pros and cons of the service, and it seems to good to be true. Which normally when something is too good to be true it is. The pros outweigh the cons from what I have looked at, but still remain uncertain if it is a wise choice to go to VOIP service, or if anyone knows of a better VOIP I should look at.
I heard of Ooma last year on NV. Likely to get Ooma Telo.
Is it actually so much cheaper?
I would say yes, because less than a year's time the hardware will be fully payed off. Leaving you with near free service. Below is what the monthly bill will be.
Right now it is $60
correction it is $50 now. Was looking at something else.
Well I'd say that's a good deal. I'd be interested in a follow-up review if ya go that direction...
will do Larry
Thanks!
:~)
Just a bit of advice. Make sure you read the small print on your contract. $8.00 a month for VOIP is a steal. I know one ISP that is offering $10.00 for the first three months of a year contract, then it goes to about $24.00 a month, at least here in WI.
I read the negative responses. One thing I kept hearing was that Ooma will switch a person to their premier. Got to keep them in check, so I am not paying that.
I have been Using MagicJack for several years now.
Dirt cheap, configures for complete 911 info. Downside would be, no power, no phone, but that is true unless you have an old school direct set that only uses power from the phone line, or has battery backup.
I have been quite happy with the service, it sends any messages to email, and you can retrieve them direct as well. And it is like $25 a YEAR.
I would look into it over anything that has monthly fees.
