1. I think this is a great step in the field of gene therapy. I am excited to see, learn and experience this new wave of advances in molecular biology.
2. It brings to mind (for me) the interesting dichotomy of people against gene therapy until they are for it.
In the second point, I am referring to the general modern idea that science is bad until it is good. As a scientist, it is very difficult to see the social line where this bad/good happens. Sometimes I really feel like the ignorant make too many decisions when it comes to areas where they should have no say. But that reflects poorly on the voting process.
Anyway, point 2 is kind of off topic from the actual intent of the article which is to explore the amazing possibilities of gene therapy; even in this brute force with a hatchet form that we are currently capable of.

Diabetes is at epidemic levels in the US; the numbers of those with diabetes and related illness are simply staggering.
