I have to agree. I usually dreadcommencementspeeches, but this guy actual took a chance and gave it straight up. Bravo for him.
Ironically his dad David McCullough went to Yale and was a veryearnestman. Wrote one of my all time favorite books, "John Adams". It goes to show, that you can remain down to earth, if you have your head on straight and a good path that was set by your parents.
That was quite profound what he said about student motivations . Kids are pressured so much to succeed that they will do anything they can not to fail . And those are not the same motivation .
It's why you havescandalswith the SATs. Not making it into the right school is justincomprehensibleto them, but not what they will get out of that school that matters to them.
Motivation is an odd thing . By the time you graduate from college your motivation is likely to have changed . That's just another way of saying what you just said .
