orders of magnitude made visual
Since Tina is introducing "mind expanding" substances into the forum I decided to enter some universally mind blowing concepts . This is an interactive graphic from NASA about the concept of "orders of magnitude" which is a technical way of describing multiplying or dividing by a factor of 10 .
It shows in pictures what it means to go up or down in orders of magnitude . It starts at the human scale of one meter in length [approximately one yard] but with the slider you can go down to the miniscule or up to the galactic sizes or anything in between .
Let it load for about 30 seconds or so then hit start . When you move the slider you are in control . Feel the power !
For those who are curious , going up by 0.1 orders of magnitude means increasing size by about 26 per cent .
Amazing and it also has back ground music.
Thanks guys . I know from my POV I leared more by looking at the universe of the very small . It answers such question as how big is an LCD pixel and the ever popular carbon nanotube . The nanotube is [as named] about 1 billionth of a meter in diameter .
Hey now! That was great!
Uh ... what background music ??
Larry ,
Did you hear any background music too ?
Wow, that was fun Rich! I played with it for about half an hour!Absolutelygreat!
It is quite an experience . How big is the smile of insightful recognition ?
Click on to the musical note in the right handcorner.
