It's not about the music :
OK all you NTers . It's time for another musical challenge . But as the title says it's not
the music that is the focus this time or even the lyrics . It's about the video special effects .
So forget about that terrific beat or the awesome melody or performance . Think about the visual display that accompanied the music . As usual I'm going to start things off with my selection . Frankly , I think you're gonna be hard pressed to come up with more startling effects than this one but you're welcome to try . In fact I dare ya' to try !
Here is Miss Norah Jones and "Sinkin' Soon" :
Seriously , if you can find some other startling visuals then post them here . Surprise me !
And don't forget to include a link . Thanks and let's see watcha got !
PS : Thanks for pointing the way Krishna .

OK... for my submissions....
First one, my special effects are right in the start:
My next selection is just twisted right up to the nightmare end.
And my final choice is fun with an interesting interlude.
Randy ,
Is that your cop-out for not playing ? C'mon , let's see what you can find .
P ,
That Norah Jones is a major talent and has been for a long time . Krish is doing a tribute to her here :
...
BTW , I don't think Shelley is twisted , well , at least not more twisted than me [: ~ P
Larry ,
I am certainly familiar with that tune & that group but I've never seen that vid before . Quite a fanciful tale they tell . Thanks !
Well P ,
You are making me work here ! I'll be back when I finish watching them ...
Hey ! Larry already posted that 1st one . I'll be back .
Wow ! I didn't know that Tom Petty did one of those effects vids . He's the last one I expected to see that from ---'cause he's so "folky" . What a phenomenal fantastic ending !
Oh for sure, you're both twisted... but like I said, that is what I like about you.
Larry,
I think you're right. I'm pretty sure that it was the first video of this type.
That one is not so folky. I guess that is why it stood out in my mind the moment I read your challenge.
Actually , now that I think back , I seem to recall seeing that vid a long time back . It probably is the grandfather of the special effects music vids . Good find !
As to that 3rd one , anything with Chris Walken in it is already surrealistic even without the special effects . That was great !
Shelly , if that's what sticks in your head you might just lose your reputation of being twisted ...
Perrie-- when i clicked one of those links the video was preceded by a weird commercial-- at first I thought the commercial was actually the video you were submitting..lol
I'll tell you why . It's that really solid steady beat , that's why ...
When i saw "Sinkin' Soon" i thought I have to give up-- very cool effects, I'll never be able to match that.
But..well..I'll try..I do know of a few videos with some interesting effects...(it might be a long night .
Not the most unusual effects, perhaps...but still kinda cool (actually i might have linked to some of these before before):
Little Richard Sings Rubber Duckie
The Muppet Show - Surfin' USA
Ode To Joy
Your a bit twisted...
Well, speaking of "twisted":
Twisted Sister - Oh Come All Ye Faithful
Twisted Sister - Silver Bells
(Not all that unusual-- but shouldn't i get "extrsa credit' because they're appropriately "seasonal"?
Twisted Sister - Oh Come All Ye Faithful
Twisted Sister - Oh Come All Ye Faithful
This one has a nice beat -- plus a little "Latin soul".
(And beyond the music-- should score a few points for the visuals!
Don't they call them "music videos"?
Music videos-- and so much more!
OK Go - This Too Shall Pass - Rube Goldberg Machine version - Official"
(has a cool ending as well...)
That vid took a long time to get to the special effects . However thanks for once again pointing the way . Here is yet another special effects video :
I always thought this was one of the coolest videos of all time, visually speaking.
I repeat, Visually speaking.
Musically..... Well, your mileage may vary.
Hey Captain,
I beat ya to it on page 1. I have to agree, though. I got a lot of greatmileagefrom that song (video, too).
Actually CK you were beaten by no fewer than 2 other posters , 1st Larry and then Perrie . If I'm not mistaken , that was the grandfather of all special effects music vids ...
Krish ,
I tend to agree with you about "Sinkin' Soon" . It is hard to beat that one . It should be required watching for all those who venture onto this thread . Nevertheless there have been some really excellent other links including the "grandfather" of all special effects vids linked by Larry :
BTW , that was an excellent version of "ode to joy" !
The death of Radio killed the Radio Star.
Bad music, Videos, and Corporate Programming killed Radio.
It's sad, really. I miss having local radio stations with DJ's and good music.
Thank God for Sirius.
I didn't notice the mentions until I went back through.
I must have missed a page of posts or something, but you are right.
With respect to those who beat me, I agree.
We actually have one indie station here called the Peak. It's really from Conn. across the Long Island sound, so only the north shore of Long Island gets it. Move 6 inches to center Island and you loose it. But it's great that we can get it most of the time.
And then there is always my pod.
OK , here is the ultra sexy Katy Perry . She's got a really cute special effects vid with Elmo of
Sesame Street :
BTW , she has quite a voice too !
I've read that about her as well . Do you think she was a disappointment to her father ?! She has filled out rather well [: ~ P
Krish ,
Yes , I recall that it was banned as being too sexy for kids . But anything Katy Perry does is going to be considered very sexy . She's just made that way .
Here are a couple more extraordinary special effects vids that were posted previously . In case you haven't already seen them you really ought to check them out .
The 1st one was posted by Larry and the 2nd one by Perrie .

This one is a classic-- special effects aren't all that far out, but still very nicely done: Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall
That entire movie has a rather surrealistic quality too it, a very good one!
It's even more depressing as a midnight show with a bunch of screaming teenagers ...
For some reason I can no longer use the reply function in threaded comments . At least not in this thread ...
Good grief ! This awful thread made the leaderboard . Don't you people have standards ?!
Good grief ! This awful thread made the leaderboard . Don't you people have standards ?!
I liked this thread, it was interesting!
Missed this comment before Mike and thanks for the cue...lookin' it up now...
Stinkfist
But if you want effects with slightly more normal looking surroundings, here's this one
Freak On A Leash
Make sure you watch the second one past the initial animation. I like the bullet. : )
Oh and some of you may want to watch it muted. My taste in tunes scares some people.
Have I mentioned that I hate VEVO?
Whoa ! Such baaad effects in Stinkfist . Dark and gloomy , yet somehow it gets more ... [light ?] near the end .
And that Korn number was excellent both musically and visually . It reminds me a little of an episode of Numb3rs .
Thanks for playing ...
Rich,
Loved your Norah Jones vid. Never saw it before. Very fun!
Shelly,
Tool.. I am sure I had trips like that, LOL!
Second one really fun
Your a bit twisted... but hey, that's what I like about you!
Good point Randy! But Rich lives in the olden days.
I remember when A-Ha's
