HFCS is not good for your health-- and its in a surprising array of products (many of which don't even taste sweet).
I think the problem is not HFCS itself . It is the fact that too much sweeteners are consumed . That would be damaging enough by itself but HFCS is apparently worse for the liver in large quantities than table sugar.
If you are on the fence on whether or not HFCS are dangerous, here is an interesting article from the NYT:
RU saying HFCS is different than just fructose ? If so , how ?
I just googled it.
It seems the short answer to that is no-- not significantly different.
Apparently the reason HFCS causes problems is that we consume so much more of it than we would normally consume of Fructose--- or any other sugar for that matter.
Here is a good article I found on the subject , IMO worth reading in its entirety-- but here's a key paragraph:
And here's the real problem: most people don't just consume HFCS in soda-- its in a lot of other foods-- in fairly large quantities.
In fact, even though its used as a sweetener, its even in food products that we don't normally think of as sweet. I saw it listed as an ingredient on a package of "Low-fat' American cheese! Also bread, etc.
If you read labels in the supermarket, you may well be amazed at how many products have it.
