In light of some of the goings on with today's (et al) FP, my rhetorical question has never been more relevant.

Agreed. Spot on.

I posted a pair of articles in Religion and Ethics these pasts few days.

The first, on a Proverb was widely ignored.

The second, on Jeremiah and his prophecy about G-d being a role model.

That one got some traction. It was a brief moment of what Newsvine used to be, back in the day.

It was a place to get smarter. Contributors were mostly on point, respectful, sincere, and positive.

It was a high level of discourse. I is the kind of intelligent discussion in an atmosphere of friendship, fellowship and cordiality that should be the standard for every discussion here. It isn't. This is the exception which proves the rule.

I am trying my best to stop the exodus of good people and fine authors from leaving thenewstalkers, because a very tiny group of individuals are so hell bent on ruining this site that it doesn't matter what they do to anyone else or this site. It looks like the immature will prevail.

I took a glance at the FP a few times today. Sad, just sad!

I need to re-evaluate what I do with my time in 2016.

I spent a lot of time on Newsvine and here giving of my talent, knowledge, and desire to be there for others, to uplift, inspire and lend a hand where needed and wanted.

Vox Populi. If the voice of the people is to leave, and or not to support quality over pandering to petty partisan hatred, propaganda, lowest common denominator levels, and divisiveness then so be it.

Enoch,

I am beginning to realize that a significant reason for "minimal traction" in positive posts, is the incessant, acrimonious knee-jerking response caused by the plethora of hateful posts that jump the list on the FP.

I am as guilty as anyone in the knee-jerk category; to not answer, rebut and/or attack some of the ugliness would be tantamount to indifference to such. Although one could easily enough go to the Groups and Forums to find what's current there, it's a kind of extra step that thwarts the move.

RW,

It's good to see you here … your very presence tells me that civility and reason are present.

Dear Friend A.Mac: A personal policy of "Don't feed the troll"can help this quagmire.

Don't take the bait of those spoiling for an immature fight, instead of a grown up conversation.

The question is will this policy be adopted enough to clear up the front page?

That way the attention starved will not get to crowd out those who come here for fellowship, peace, and to learn and share.

So far the trend isn't good.

One can hope for the future. Hatikvah on-line, so to speak.

The second, on Jeremiah and his prophecy about G-d being a role model.

I was planning on posting a very controversial comment there . If I did would you still be OK with that attention ?

Dear Friend Petey Cober: I cannot tell if the comment you wish to post satisfies the Red Box Rules, and the Four B's unless I see what you wish to post in advance.

Thank you for asking. That is nice of you.

Let me suggest a way to proceed on this matter.

Send me the comment, in its entirety in a private note.

After review, if it is "clean and green" have at it.

If it isn't, let's see if we can work together to make it fit into the discussion thread. The two things I seek in the Four B's are these. First: Relevant, respectful, and positive comments. Second: The exchange of ideas does not create an atmosphere hostile to those who come to my threads because acrimony isn't the tone of choice for all or even most that came here.  For those who thrive on bile, there are other authors (mostly seeders0 and other threads to do this.

I have a responsibility to those who come to what I do. I also have to protect my intellectual property. I don't seed. I know how to think and write. Seeding became obsolete when search engines made it possible for anyone to find what others write, at least half a million hits per search decades ago.

Finally on how to proceed with your fine inquiry, suppose you and I cannot find a way to make your post fit into what is being done in my thread at all. Also suppose it only works at the price of you not being able to express what you want to say and be true to your message.

If that happens, the best course of action is to write your own original article to make your case. You may want to use Red Box Rules and clear instructions to control how you want the content and tone (connotation and denotation; normative and descriptive) discussion to flow.

If that is how things play out, please count on me to come to your original monograph, and give it a close and objective read.

Depend on me to support your unfettered expression of original thoughts.

I think you and I can be an effective team in working on this, as we have on other things in the past.

I look forward to your private note.

Peace and Abundant Blessings,.

Enoch.

Sending you an email as a preview sounds like too much work . I endeavor always to be respectful and not do put downs . But to give you a small hint of what I had in mind , it concerned discussing various prophets rather than G_d himself . If that is too far off topic then I won't bother ...

Dear Friend Petey Coober Without seeing the text it is hard for me to say if it is off-topic.

Seeing the text first may seem like a small detail.

Details may appear to be a trifle.

As Michaelangelo once wrote, "Trifles make perfection. Perfection is no trifle".

It sounds like it isn't the main thrust of the article.

The article is about G-d as a Role Model.

The message of one prophet was the vehicle to deliver that message.

That said, I wold greatly enjoy reading your thoughts about prophets.

I respect your mind, and want to find out your thinking on this topic.

One third of my primary Scripture is about prophets.

Tanach is the correct name for Hebrew and Aramaic Scripture.

The first third is Torah. the 613 laws of G-d which are perfect, eternal, immutable and self fulfilling. Me and mine find them the best way to live life most abundantly humanely, ethically and fulfillingly. We have for six thousand Years. As we have kept our covenant with G-d, so to has G-d kept us alive in all kinds of places and conditions. Many of them oppressive and very adverse. We endure. Am Yisrael Chai. The people of Israel live. Netzach Yisrael lo Yishacare. Israel will never perish. Not form the sin of the sword, or the sin of evangelism. Trying to make the world Yudenrein (Jew Free)  didn't start with the National Socialists (Nazi's). For as long as we have been here, there are those who tried to exterminate our bodies, numbers, religion, cultures, souls and spirits. They all wound up on the dist bin of history, Most aren't even remembered by obscure footnotes in scholarly tomes any more.

The last third is Catuveem. All that is in our primary devotional anthology before its canonization in 70 BCE at the Council of Yamniyah (Jamnuyah).

The middle third is Nev'eeyeem (prophets).

TaNaCh. Ta (Torah). Na Neve-eem. Ch (Chatuveem).

I would encourage you to write your ideas on prophets. You have my full support, attention and help in any way you wish it. In this life, we all have some things to teach, to learn from each other. I and others want to learn your perspective on a topic of mutual interest and import.

Peace and Abundant Blessings.

Thanks for your response Enoch . From my POV the prophets seem to be more about the "application" of religions while G_d is more about the "theory" of religions . Does that make sense ?

Dear Friend Petey: Prophets for sure represent applied theology. They on a case by case basis address a specific narrowly defined topic. They are a conduit for how to live life best, and how to conduct oneself. They are, like Seraphim communicating the wisdom and desire of G-d for us to choose right over wrong. Also to to be here for one another in our own time.

Great point Petey.

Among the roles of G-d are both theory and practice of religion. But not limited only to that.

Prophets represent parts. G-d represents a whole greater than the sum of all parts, and more.

Let me borrow from our good friends in the Hindu heritage.

There is the story of a number of blind people.

They have no past experience with or knowledge of elephants.

They are brought to an elephant. Each is allow to touch smell and listen to the mammal.

Based on what they now know from what they encountered, they are asked to define what the elephant is.

One describes the tusk.

Another the long nose.

Another the ear.

A fourth the tail.

A fifth the foot (paw).

Next the mid section.

One more the head.

Each description is accurate.

Each based on what is available to each blind person.

Put all the accurate and correct narratives of what is the elephant and a person with no knowledge of an elephant still would not know what an elephant really is.

That is our situation in this life.

We can only do the best we can with what we have.

That said, doing less than our best is conduct unbecoming.

I wold not be alone in reading an original article on the relationship (comparison and contrast) between G-d and prophets in your view. You are a profound thinker with lots on the ball.

I encourage you to share your views on this topic. I support anyone who wants to constructively contribute to any article you write.

We will all be the better off for this.

Peace and Abundant Blessings.

Enoch.

What a lovely vista, Mac. I love the how you captured the both the foreground and the background. Makes you feel like you are right there.

As for the front page, one can chose to bring light or darkness. It is up to each of us to decide what we will bring.

Where will the site go for illumination when those who radiate the light have moved to pastures greener?

It is easy to get trapped in the darkness, especially when we have a flashlight we chose not to use.

Problem is getting people to choose to turn it on.

Liberty shines the brightest light it is authoritarianism that is the cause of darkness. Give others the liberty to speak their mind and you will feel the sunshine on yourself.

Dean,

The intentional denial of that liberty as perpetrated on the FP is precisely what motivated the headline and intent of this discussion. After taking the time, making the effort and extending the respect of a detailed reply … THAT REPLY AND THE ENTIRE ARTICLE IN WHICH IT APPEARED WERE DELETED … ONLY TO BE RE-POSTED IN FULL WITHOUT THE REPLIES!

It was the second time in two days the seeder/member did the very same thing!

I won't bother to leave any more comments in the discussions/seeds/articles of the member to whom I refer and at least two of his allies; the tactic of arbitrarily and capriciously deleting comments, thumbs-down gang-banging, taunts, "moving-the-goalposts" and slinking away from honest dialogue constitutes a character-disorder orgy of a disturbing magnitude.

It is doing great harm t the FP, to The NewsTalkers in general, and, to use the "sunshine" metaphor, raining on all of us.
