LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) -- A California business is offering guests the opportunity to enjoy cafe-style beverages while interacting with dogs seeking forever homes.
"The Dog Cafe" in Los Angeles touts itself as the first of its kind in the United States to provide the style of pet adoption that has already gained popularity with cats throughout the country and abroad.
"The Dog Cafe offers a comfortable and fun space for humans and dogs to hang out with each other, away from overcrowded shelters, which can provoke fear and aggression in perfectly adoptable pups," the company's website states.
The cafe had its grand opening on Thursday and has already been completely booked through April 12.
Visitors are required to sign a liability waiver and pay $10 entrance fee that includes a 55-minute visit with the dogs as well as one beverage, according to the website.
A list of the available dogs can be found on the cafe's website along with a brief description of their personality and their backstory. All of the dogs are rescues that have been spayed and neutered and they are all available for adoption with the exception of Sharkie, the cafe's mascot and pet of founder Sarah.
Visitors are not allowed to bring their own dogs to the cafe due to lack of city approval, but the staff is willing to coordinate meetings between dogs outside the property.
"For now, we are happy to arrange outdoor meetings between your own dogs and Dog Cafe dogs you might be interested in adopting," the website states.
Visitors can apply to adopt dogs from the cafe online, as well as reserve appointments to visit the cafe on Wednesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If I were able to go there, I would definitely want to adopt Bart and Lisa.
What a great idea to help get more dogs adopted.
I'd take that Doxie home in a hot minute.
Great story!
Is it dogs only, or are they permitted to bring their owners with them?
Did anyone open their web site and scroll through the dogs? This concept to promote dog adoption is brilliant.
I did Buzz, and it is brilliant. Plus the various dog that they had up for adoption were really cool.
