Announcers lose their minds after runner's amazing last-second comeback

This race looked over because it was over. But the runner in the red top dug deep and ran her heart out. She overtook everyone despite starting in the “depths of hell,” as the screaming commentator put it, before eventually snagging first place at the final moment.

Start the video at about the 2:45 mark , if you can't watch the whole thing, and keep your eye on the team with the solid red shirt on. They are hopelessly behind heading into the final lap of the 4x400 relay race.

Sometimes the best things in sports are not in the professional ranks, or among the events everyone is talking about, but in the unexpected and the uncelebrated.  The video is from the college championships of Ireland.

John - You found one of my weaknesses.......SPORTS!!!!!!!

Watching this just gets my blood pumping.  Incredible finish and tremendous effort from the athlete.

Oh....last night I heard Jake Arrieta threw a no hitter (didn't watch it but saw it on the news).  Jake seems to be doing so much better with the Cubs than he did with the Orioles.  Seems to be a better fit for him.  Better chemistry.  I'm sure you're a happy man today.

I don't think long time Cub fans are too sure how to react to the team being made the preseason favorite to win the World Series. Such a thing has never been the case in my lifetime, I know that. The team seems very confident though. 16 runs last night.

The young woman who ended up winning the race appeared to start the last lap of the race about 100 meters behind the leader. The whole lap was only 400 meters, so to make up that distance with such a short time to do it in was unbelievable. Obviously the front runners tired some, but they didn't appear to totally stop. I think the winner just ran the race of her life.

I agree.  She collapsed at the end.  There was a girl on my track team (back in HS........) that could run like the wind.  When it was her turn to run the relay a bunch of us would stop whatever we were doing and wait for it to be her turn with the baton.  No matter where we were when we started that relay we always ended up winning.  The first couple of meets the other teams hadn't run against her before so it was fun to watch the looks on their faces when she took off.  It was breath taking.....like watching poetry.  Let me just tell you that word got around the county real quick and people would come just to watch not really caring who would win.

You are so right....this young woman ran the race of her life.  It was fun to watch.

From fifth place to first place on the last leg of a 400 meter relay......

Pure heart..... Not only did she recover, she beat an Olympian runner to do it.

Definitely a champion, Absolutely incredible.

Although I could not open the YouTube, I got the idea of what happened. It made me think of the video of the Olympics where Mills came up from behind in a race to win it, and the radio announcer was screaming "Look at Mills, look at Mills!!!.

I agree Buzz. In this case the young woman that won was far behind going up the backstretch on the last lap. I am pretty sure this sort of comeback is rare.
