I owe you a couple of phone calls … the legal battle with the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Water Authority and its proposal to place 40, 500' tall wind turbines on the ridge just up the mountain slope from my little Pocono house, has consumed a lot of my time and energy.
Tell the Beit Lechem Water Authority they better not mess with our fall plans.
If they do, they will have me with whom to contend.
Enoch,
There's a community fund raising event scheduled for August 13, that to help pay attorney's fees; the township zoning board has scheduled one more session with the Water Authority after which it has 45 days to approve or deny the proposal. And after that comes what could be appeal-after-appeal.
But you and I can discuss plans for an autumn weekend or three-day which I will base on projections for peak, fall foliage colors.
Thanks, Dowser; we've had a number of expert testimonies including a hydrologist report, which, if you are interested, I may be able to post or send as a PDF.
My house is the last one on the mountain and closest to ridge where they propose placing the turbines; imagine being in a position where the house is uninhabitable because of noise, flicker, rock and mud slides due to the destruction of hundreds of acres of forest … then having a legal battle in which the costs of representation may approach the (significantly) diminished value of the house (which I won't be able to sell).
Yes, I'd love to read the hydrologist report, not that I could add anything, but I would like to read it, anyway. If I can do anything to help, you know I will!
523 foot turbine in your backyard doesn't sound like something I would appreciate? My gosh, that's almost two football fields tall.
How about almost 40 of them.
It's not about "green energy," it's about green money.
The destruction of 300 acres of pristine forest, not to mention dynamite blasting, concrete pouring, adverse effects on ground water … destroying habitat of at least two endangered animal species …
Here's an interesting fact that makes me wonder; the Executive Director of the Bethlehem Water Authority RESIGNED HIS POSITION AS MAYOR OF BETHLEHEM TO BECOME … THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE BETHLEHEM WATER AUTHORITY.
Interesting.

As earlier promised … more photos, fewer political comments.
Feels good.
Nice black and white, Mac....
You know how much I love your B&W's. This is just lovely. So painterly.
Perrie,

But I will call.
Dear AMac: Tell the Beit Lechem Water Authority they better not mess with our fall plans.
If they do, they will have me with whom to contend.
That should strike fear in the hearts of those most eaisly and irrationally frightened.
Enoch, chewing SweetNSourGhum.

Dear Friend AMac: Will do.
Best of luck.
Don't let the B*******s get you down.
E.
If I can be of any help to you, please let me know!

Big money vs. middle class America.
I'm so sorry to hear this!

I hope you persevere!
Beautiful picture!!! I love it! Thanks for posting it!
I have more of these black and white and everything in-between, and, I have avoided the politics today, so, whaddya' say?
I say, MOREEEEEEEEE
I say, MOREEEEEEEEE
Then it's unanimous!
Okay … back shortly with another to be posted under the first one.
And now there are two.
Wow! Is the face of that mountain standing on edge? Beautiful picture!
Now that's a stunner, Mac.
Well done.
As you know I prefer B&W for dramatic effect, and consider the grass photo to be very good, but the mountain shot is great.
Thanks to all … more tomorrow, and good night.
Beautiful prints A Mac! I especially like the Mt. Baker one!
I read this:
Bethlehem Authority has championed the proposal because it is an investment in green energy, providing $100,000 each year for the authority.
