Keeper of the Flame
I loved Spencer Tracy & Katherine Hepburn. They made many entertaining movies!

Some were funny & others were quite serious in subject matter esp. for their eras.

Yet, there was one movie - made in 1942 & released in 1943 "Keeper of the Flame" that was a tad darker than the other movies.

Its central focus is/has been received better (kind of like the movies of Frank Cappra, I love "It's a Wonderful Life") in more modern times, yet the relevance of the movies subject matter (was in tune then) is uncanny TODAY!

Probably not many have seen it, but I understand why you consider it relevant. The reason I assume is because (as indicated by the plot):

[The deceased "hero" Robert Forrest " was corrupted by the power and adulation he received. He became a fascist , plotting to gain control of the United States and use his enormous influence to turn Americans to fascist ideals. She [Katherine Hepburn] shows O'Malley  [a journalist played by Spencer Tracy] papers stored in the arsenal  [Forrest's library/office] which reveal how Forrest (backed by secretive, ultra-wealthy, power-hungry individuals) planned to use racism , anti- union feeling, and antisemitism to divide the country, turning one group against another if it became too powerful to control, in order to create the chaos that would let him seize power."

Although I have not yet seen the movie I will seek it out to watch. It does sound relevant to what is happening today.

Spoiler!

Your assumption is over reaching though.

Rinaldo "t"Rump (all to true caricature made in 'Biker Mice from Mars cartoon), which I presume is why you thought that

would not be my only reason!

People (ideologies etc). purport themselves to be many things, but " We" lie best when "We" lie to ourselves."

The movie was not well received (like "It's a Wonderful Life) & nor was the screen writer (who was later McCarthyed) during their times, but gained traction in modern times.

If you know history, you know America did not rush to stop the fascism of WWII & some of that was do the sympathizers, War weariness, isolationism or just plain cowardice regarding suffering of humanity -

like today.

Personally, I prefer one Think for oneself, yet this is 'Classic Cinema' so!

I think there are many who fall prey to giving that P. T. Barnum of the 21st century his 15 so it doesn't require me, yet great movies - which can lead one to clearer understandings - priceless esp. when they remain relevent in current time be it in subject matter, as well as the simple joys of movies themselves -

isolationism, cowardice and the lies " We" tell ourselves, Tracy & Hepburn & a riveting story - plus your nice comment about coming back around NT made me wanna contribute to my group &

Again, it is a Good movie✌💞🗽

Spoilers & Karma laughing dude  - JKY (JustKiddingYa😉)

Perhaps, I need a tutorial😵

I chose not to dole  out info because the subject matter, the political climate (not just War, but McCarthy and Hollywood) then/now, & (if your a FAN of) Tracy & Hepburn (& missed it SCORE) only requires Bing or Google and then too a

Mind (which is a Terrible thing to Waste even if "We" can't unlock the Full Measure of it!) is Engaged, but if I have to give the joy of that discovery away or someone else is!?😱

Also, I truly would like to contribute & get the group going (which is why I presumed the email was sent Bat Signal style) like when I joined NT  & as I have another "discussion" (things have changed since last here😵) I'd like to post soon  Equally as Cinematically provocative and relevant -

so Buzz, I am off to review some articles or is that discussion?😵😱😉

Oh, I will testify on your behave if the Wiki's come barring Legal 🔦 torch's (had to go British Mother Land, no Patriotic torch's in my emoji baggeek - please CIA don't "Kill the Messenger" (& no that's not the subject of my next 'Classic Cinema' post)

& last chance

Are you sure ya missed me - cuz went to another group & they aren't seemingly all about the Love💞 & nor would they care to 'Discuss' things with moi!? LOL✌🗽 & VIVA LA 🎉Cinema!

@petey posted a link ABOVE & Amazon and other outlets have it to stream - cheaply

& one should not Forget to support their local Libraries, which have tons of DVD's (some @ no charge, just have a card), which you can keep for more than a day (again in some libraries)
