You Really Have to Want It!

Cold, still snowing a bit, not the easiest of days to trudge through the woods … if you want to get some good snow scene photos, you've got to get out there when the snow is (often) still falling, often when it's too cold for most humans to be out messing up the new snow-covering … in other words … YOU REALLY HAVE TO WANT IT!

Yesterday, in the Pocono Mountains, I really wanted it, and, I GOT IT!

At this Point, it was a Constant Concern to Keep the Snow off of my Lens (I had to Photoshop a drop from the sky area)

I don't know if your aware of this Mac, by the Ojibwe invented snowshoes...Yup it's true.

That is a wonderful photo, very peaceful and serene.

Ojibwe invented snowshoes

I was not aware of that … an interesting addition to the discussion.

And, were you aware that South Philly guys invented Cement Shoes?

Little known fact outside of the neighborhood.

I thought it was Cement Overshoes, or was that a Chicago adaptation?

South Philly has always been fashion conscious and tasteful … overshoes are so … how can I put it …

OVERSTATED.

Mac, many moons ago I was in South Philly working out at a boxing gym. I was told then about cement shoes. I handed the fellow a fine pair of moccasins and told him they were easier on the feet.

We meet a few weeks later in the squared circle, and he still had on cement shoes. I outpointed him in a fast 3 rounds.

True story.

I think I fought that same guy …

But at the corner of 8th & Catherine Streets.

This was back in the 60's. He turned pro a couple of years later. Name of Willie Monroe.

Tough guy.

Willie "The Worm" Monroe!

He got the nickname from an old Philly TV show … "Willie the Worm," five P.M. to five thirty P.M. weekdays on the old WCAU TV, Chanel 10!

Damn! Talk about a "small world"!

That's him...''The Worm'' so that's where he got the nickname from, I'll be dammed.

Did you know him or meet him at some time?

Monroe was about five years younger than I … might have seen him at Joe Frazier's gym but never met him personally.

I think that there is some mistake here Mac...That worm is Red, and as far as I remember Willie was black, I was Red...Laugh

Perhaps you were both regarded as "colorful" boxers.

The one thing I miss the most from the east coast woods is the snow covered creek.

An ethereal quality, of quiet, serene peace.

I miss that more than anything else in my trips through the woods.....

Beautiful shot my friend...

I am nothing else if not of ethereal quality, quiet, and, the purveyor of serene peace …

Well, maybe not exactly.

Good to see you.

Dear Friend AMac: I read on the Internet that we were due for our first Winter Storm in Fall starting yesterday.

I can't speak to that.

We have no visibility, and about half a foot of white powder on the lawns and roads.

Makes it hard to see.

This has nothing to do with the snow … but Gracie went to the groomer today and my wife took her picture before Gracie pawed the ribbons off of her ears. Couldn't resist posting it … she is every bit as intelligent and lovable as she looks.

When we took our Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier to the groomer she returned with ribbons in her hair as well. Very cute.

A year ago I we lived in an area that is covered with snow right now, but where we are going and will be moving to in about 5 - 6 weeks there will rarely if ever be snow.

Very nice shots there AMac.  Love the snow but not the ice which is what we see here most of the time.  Need to take 4 photos, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring of that first photo.

Gracie is absolutely beautiful!!!

Your 4-photo concept is an excellent idea. There is much Chinese art using that theme. I gave my son a set of hand-painted Chinese hangings similar to this as a wedding gift.
