Too Old to Deny Myself "On Principle" … or, Because I don't Really Need that which I Want!
Back when I was a kid, my mother would often ask the question, "What do you need it for?"
"IT" being something I wanted but, in fairness, something, in the most pragmatic terms, I did not need .
Well, nowhere near the "kid" stage any longer, this ol' dude has wanted a NEW CAMERA recently … a Nikon D500 to be precise … and I can tell you exactly what I needed it for … I needed it for its
• 10 frames per second shooting capability
• Fast and accurate auto-focus capability
• Ability to take quality shots at high ISO numbers
… and other reasons.
Yesterday I got the camera and today I tried it out at one of those high ISO numbers … ISO 2000 to be exact.

I can't wait to get to some pond, marsh, estuary or any haven for water fowl … and take their pictures in flight @ ISO 400, Aperture of F8 and shutter speeds faster than 1/500 second.
Can't wait!
What a wonderful picture!!! Thank you for this!!!
Posted a second shot.
He's looking right at us! Thank you for a bright spot in my day!
I had my last back treatment this morning, and started the treatment in my hip. Right now, I am hurting for certain, and the pain meds aren't doing SQUAT. Oh for a drug dealer when you need one! (JUST KIDDING...)
So, anyway, this picture of this sweet little bird is definitely a bright spot in my day!!! Thank you!
Oh, BTW, the Meyer family loved the Hamburg pictures! Thank you!!!
I will be posting other Hamburg pictures, Dowser.
Ahh ha, a new toy for Mac.
Beautiful photos.
Great shots!
Just gettin' started with my new camera.
Some of the technical info is interesting and worth knowing for anyone even half-involved in photography … but, unless asked, I won't likely discuss any of it.
Please continue to do so, as someday I may may learn how to set my camera... Please!!! I'm still strugging with everything, these days...
Third bird posted.
And is is gorgeous! Another little bright spot in my day! I love you, dear A. Mac!
Beautiful 3rd shot Mac.
Obviously it's an excellent camera, but what it produces is indicative not only of the quality of the camera but also the expertise of the photographer using it. What you see here is proof of that - and I can't wait to see photos of more varied subjects.
Very kind words, Buzz; I will try to live up to them.
Posted a fourth … Carolina Chickadee.
I will shoot more pix tomorrow with the D500 … it may be overcast or even raining, but, we'll see what we will see.
My sincere best wishes to all on NT … to all … no exceptions.
