It is my sincere belief that such a work of art would be supported and funded in all 50 states were the potential reality it prefigures, actually to become THE REALITY .

I am so very disappointed - disappointed and disgusted, that vicious political ranting has now invaded the Photography and Art forum. Is there no escape from the ranting? Could we not have just left it on the Home Page and the groups dedicated to this fucking garbage? Don't throw Guernica at me, please - that was the result of the evil bombing of innocent civilians, and there is no comparison with a legally won election.
Oh, and if I have contradicted your red box rules, deal me out, and I will never post on art-based groups or forums again.
Everyone was invited to comment; editorial cartoons, art of social consciousness, national pride, war efforts, and, some not-so-kind art … all, like functional art, have a place and a purpose.
My billboard, like other billboard "advertisements", appeals to the public in the outdoors … it is no less necessary than are advertisements about Medicare enrollment, cancer screening, pet adoption, home fire prevention …
I don't quite understand why you would walk away from this forum because I used a form of art that foments strong reactions, positive and negative. It also serves notice to elected officials that even Boobus americana can be reached by media other than reality TV, moronic situation comedies and commercial messages of various kinds.
I did not post an article about the election; this is about what those who will take office post-election have threatened to do; that some herein chose to completely evade what succinctly appears on the billboard is on them … and actually serves to underscore the need to keep a serious issue literally "out there" lest it be too late, and for some, to the end.
This isn't Guernica, but the premise my discussion broaches will have real life-and-death consequences if it materializes.
You posted partisan politics on a site designated for art. Had you posted photos that depicted both sides, rather than one, I would have considered it non-partisan. If I want to see partisan politics there is the Home Page and others to frequent, but if I want to see art, I don't need to look at a euphemistic way to post your partisan politics. How about if I post a photo of Palestinians stabbing an innocent Israeli child on the Creative Arts group. After all, it's photography, isn't it?
How about if I post a photo of Palestinians stabbing an innocent Israeli child on the Creative Arts group. After all, it's photography, isn't it?
If those who would comment on such an article would do so with the focus of whether or not, as art, it made the case, why not?
There are no "both sides," Buzz. That is the point; the future of health care in America literally is under the control of one party that will determine the outcome if shown no overt public resistance. My editorial "cartoon" of a billboard as functional, social-activist art, is not unlike Bob Dylan lyrics, patriotic music, theater, etc. .
Does the billboard work as functional art, or does it not. THAT'S WHAT THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT.
Were the election undetermined, then yes, my billboard would be partisan; but since an appeal to protect the healthcare of many Americans is in the hands of a single part, the word "partisan" is not only not biased, it's the reality.
If you walk away from the Forum and the Creative Arts Group because one article disgusts you, you will essentially erode, if not bring a de facto close to both. By all means, rip the article as I invited; but be offended by the content of the "functional art" in question, not the forum in which art may occasionally be deemed offensive.
I did not make this political, I used an art form to address what is and what might be. Had the comments dealt only with the concept of using a billboard to effect policy, and/or the policies named, it would not have become political per se.
NOTE: Any insensitive, mean-spirited, inane comment, or, a comment posted with the intent to undermine the ART-icle, could well reveal the character of its author, may imply character issues … and, may result in a sincere expression from me, that no one the commenter knows, loves, cares for, etc., ever has his or her name appear on such a billboard.
Wonder if GO FUND ME would be one of a number of ways to go … my guess is that if I put this "out there" … the response would be overwhelmingly positive.
I may send this to my U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators.
If I do so, I will share any responses from their offices.
I see I should have added a caveat about DISMISSIVE COMMENTS that mock and make light of serious issues … but like those of Mr. Trump, offer Sound and Fury, Signifying Nothing (but Pander noise).
But please, keep such comments coming as they make easy targets.
AS PROMISED: BF, I wish you and all those for whom you care, good health and long life.
There used to be an X in the upper right hand corner... Can't help you, other than that. I haven't had chat for a while, not since it had trouble. I've cleared my cache and it hasn't come back, yet.
I try to respond in conjunction to the content of most comments … even those that ACTUALLY move away from the subject at-hand. I have done so in this thread.
Much of what has been posted HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PROPOSED LEGISLATION, THE POTENTIAL OUTCOMES AND WHAT MIGHT BE DONE TO STOP SUCH LEGISLATION.
THE BILLBOARD I POSTED IS NOT ABOUT THE ELECTION PER SE, IT IS ABOUT THE POTENTIAL ADVERSE ACTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN THREATENED BY THE POLITICAL PARTY THAT WILL BE IN CONTROL ON JANUARY 20, 2017.
It's about the working of government and legislation on which the Republican candidates ran.
Apparently, those with nothing to add relevant to this, are content to make it about something else. It's not that they are posting related points of dissent … they are posting tangential, albeit off topic comments, and/or one or more of the following:
argument from irrelevance : "I don't see how that's relevant." when the original argument has specifically named one or more points of relevance
argument from overabundance : "You have too many points, I can't address them all." -- so I'm not going to address any of them.
argument from subjectivity : "This is a matter regarding which there is no objective resolution, therefore any conclusions you might reach by objective reasoning from this statement are invalid, regardless of how much evidence you might present to support it.
FWIW, this is a controversial billboard that actually went up near the N Carolina border-- about N.C. new anti-LGBT law:
HB2 has fostered national outrage, and is the direct cause of Bruce Springsteen canceling his concert in Greensboro last week. The new law has also cost the state well over 1000 new jobs, from companies like Paypal, Lionsgate Studios, and local North Carolina based internet marketing firm Red Ventures, to name a few.
Here's a billboard that the same organization put up near the Republican National Convention:
Planting Peace , the non-profit organization behind The Equality House , a rainbow-colored house that sits across the street from Westboro Baptist Church, is calling out Donald Trump and the Republican Party in a massive billboard that went up on Thursday in Cleveland, Ohio, where the RNC will take place next week. The billboard, below, shows an illustration of Trump poised to kiss Ted Cruz beside a caption that reads “Love trumps Hate. End homophobia.”
According to the account of the "Paul Robeson Centennial Celebration": "Robeson sang and spoke for 45 minutes. He introduced his first song stating 'I stand here today under great stress because I dare, as do you—all of you, to fight for peace and for a decent life for all men, women and children' … [and, accompanied by Lawrence Brown on piano,] proceeded to sing spirituals, folk songs, labour songs, and a passionate version of Old Man River , written for him in the [1920s], slowly enunciating 'show a little grit and you land in jail', underlining the fact that his government had turned the entire country into a prison for Robeson and many others."
Historically, revolutionary ideas have emerged first among artists and intellectuals.
That's why tyrannical (left and right governments) impose a precise mechanism to defuse the role of artists and intellectuals by relegating them into specialized, compartmentalized disciplines, in order to impose unnatural dichotomies as the "separation of art from politics".
Once artistic-intellectual works are separated from current events and from a comprehensive critique of society, they are sterilized and can be "safely" integrated into the official culture and the public discourse …
I once had an after-performance party in my home, when Arlo and I sat together on the floor discussing his concern about the loss of income because his father's copyrighted songs were being played illegally without royalties being paid.
I just love art that makes a statement!
It is my sincere belief that such a work of art would be supported and funded in all 50 states were the potential reality it prefigures, actually to become THE REALITY .

Okay Art, if you can't beat them, join them.
I haven't joined them, I have confronted them via a print medium, but only secondarily … if "THEM" wants to critique my billboard … that's the idea.
My understanding is they want to overturn it day one, but wait for some time before they implement the stoppage.
Since they were supposed to have an alternative day one, you have to wonder who is bullshitting who.
Our billboard was almost as good. We could put this up at the state house...
Wonder if GO FUND ME would be one of a number of ways to go … my guess is that if I put this "out there" … the response would be overwhelmingly positive.

There used to be an X in the upper right hand corner... Can't help you, other than that. I haven't had chat for a while, not since it had trouble. I've cleared my cache and it hasn't come back, yet.
OK I will get in touch with them
Perrie, I cleared my cache again, restarted my computer and it came back! So, no worries!

Pro-gun yard sign:
FYI:
Folk and protest music
In February 1952, the United States Customs Service seized the passport of Paul Robeson , preventing him from leaving the United States to travel to the Fourth Canadian Convention of the International Union of Mine, Mill, and Smelter Workers , in Vancouver , Canada; but, after "The convention heard Robeson sing over the telephone", the union organized "a concert on the US-Canada border".
In the 1960s the songs of Pete Seeger , Joan Baez , Bob Dylan , and others protested further racism , war, and the military-industrial complex , continuing an American artistic tradition of political protest founded during its colonial era .
And
Historically, revolutionary ideas have emerged first among artists and intellectuals.
