Another collection of great pictures in a medium not all that familiar to me
I have not seen many charcoal drawings (I remember doing it in art class) but these are beautiful.
You're not kidding ..Another collection of great pictures !! I have NEVER seen drawings quite like these!!! Thanks RIO!! You're finding some real winners!!
Beautiful is an understatement RIO.
Spectacular is more fitting.

Thanks for the feedback
I remember the crude stick figures and houses we did with charcoal in school and then I see something like this
Truly amazing stuff

Thanks for that perspective and feedback
Arnhem was the site of the last bridge, in "A Bridge Too Far", and the home of Audrey Hepburn.
I couldn't hang these in my house, as they would make me cry! But they are beautiful, in a stark, deeply disturbing way... Makes me wonder if the artist didn't actually live in Arnhem during WWII.

I am not familiar with the artist but I agree that these are beautiful
Thanks for sharing the facts on Arnhem
No crying it makes the charcoal run
Back in the heyday of painting -- the Renaissance through the Dutch Masters -- there was always a place for demonstrations of virtuousity. Still-lifes were essentially that: the artist saying "Look how good I am!"
These remind me of that approach to art: flat-out demonstration of skill and talent.
Very nice.

Appreciate the feedback
I am glad you liked the drawings
When one realizes that there are essentially only about 256 shades of grayscale (from pure white to solid black), that as opposed to literally millions of tints and shades of color, it is fascinating to recognize the power of "black and white" imagery!

Great point, I had not thought of that
A lot of beauty in those 256 shades of gray in my view
It really amazing the power that black and white photos/drawing can generate.
Creating ethereal imagery out of nothing but contrast, and with a very difficult medium to boot.
I remember in art class dragging the side of a pencil over matt paper.
But scribbles compared to this...
Fantastic sense of composition and understanding of light....
Extraordinary...

Thanks for the feedback
I am glad that you liked them and we remember charcoal drawing in school similarly
Kavika
Indeed it is
Thanks for the feedback
I remember doing that also!

I don't know about you, but I was not this good
These give me a visceral feeling of loneliness, oppression, and foreboding. I guess I'm just a wuss...

I know what you mean several of them make me immediately think of emptiness and bleakness - but I still love them
R W
You are welcome, glad you liked them
We are building a house this summer and I look at my pathetic sketches of rooms and furniture placement and realize exactly how little drawing ability I have
I guess that is why I love looking at the work of those that can!
