Wry Comic Paintings by Brooklyn Artist, Dave Ellis
Brooklyn artist, Dave Ellis turns his comic-style sketches into large paintings that reveal many wry truths about his life. His sarcastic sensibilities shine through as he pokes fun at the way he lived when sex, drugs and rock-n-roll were his anthem.
Ellis incorporates a pop art aesthetic that uses the visual language of advertising putting ordinary moments and objects in the spotlight.
His work is filled with troublemaker characters that seem to be crossed with the innocence of the Peanuts Gang, too. Straddling the line between having a clean pop sensibility and leaving imperfections in the final paintings, he says, I dont care about it being perfect. I make a lot of mistakes and I like them to be featured.
