Yes, A.Mac, that is an effective example of what benefit is attainable with such a lens. I can understand the exposure problem, if the "ultra-wide" aspect gives the camera too wide a field to zero in on.

As the sun sets and the shadows cover the forest, the trees come to life. Their branches turning into arms reaching for the you....Oh crap, I scaring the hell out of myself.
