Paralysed Artist Paints with Her EYES Using State-of-the-Art Technology

A paralysed artist has refused to let her disability stop her creating beautiful pieces of art - by using her EYES to paint.

Sarah Ezekiel, 49, gave up on creating art when she was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease 15 years ago.

But now she has created a new collection by using blinking, staring, and state-of-the-art technology.

Wheelchair-bound Sarah, of Hendon, north west London, is selling her paintings to raise money for a charity which helps people recover from debilitating accidents.

She said: "When MND took the mobility of my hands, I gave up on ever creating anything again. I still can't believe that I can paint with my eyes - and love it."

Art: One of Sarah Ezekiel's works

Sarah uses the Tobii PCEye, a motion detector that allows her to control computers with her eyes, to create her paintings.

She is selling her work for up to 180 at branches of Furniture Village across the country to raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation.

Sarah said: "Assistive technology isn't only about speaking for me. It enables me to do almost everything that able-bodied people can do.

Blooming: Assistive media has transformed the artist's life

"I e-mail, read books, shop online, pay bills, use social media and paint.

"I also have environmental controls, so I can operate my TV, curtains, page my carer and open my front door."

Sarah began painting again in 2012 and has since had her works exhibited across the globe, including the Royal Academy Schools in the UK and the Katara Art Centre in Qatar.

Joy: Sarah began painting again in 2012

Furniture Village's marketing director Charlie Harrison said: "Having followed Sarah's work closely over the last few years, we were keen to provide her with a platform for her art to get the exposure it deserves, by showcasing her talent all over the country.

"We should celebrate the brilliant, talented artists and achievers who are amazingly successful in spite of their disabilities.

"Sarah is a fantastic and informative example of this, not only to people within the disabled community but also to society at large."

Beautiful pictures, but more importantly an artist, a person who refuses to abandon her passion to create and share beauty despite a serious disability

Inspirational.

Technology can a great thing.

What she has accomplished is a testament to not allowing obstacles to stop one from accomplishing their goals.
