Paint a song or poem with your photos
Paint a song or poem with your photos
Pick a song or a poem and illustrate the lines with your photos. For example:
"I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree"
Here is my attempt:
Autumn Leaves
The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days roll on
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
Listen to the ultimate rendition of the song - sung by Nat King Cole

Now, can you post a song or poem and illustrate the lines with your photos? You might not have a photo for every line, but don't let that stop you. Let's see what you can do.
There must be a photographer or two among our new members who can meet a photo challenge.
I'm going to have to work on this for a while Buzz.
I hope others work on it for a while. It took me some time to create the article, but it kept me off the antagonistic Front Page, and maybe others will realize that there is more to life than political nastiness.
I'll have to work on it, as well!
Winter Wonder Lan
Can't open it. Tried to search it in the sites I can use, but as expected, no go. Sorry I could not hear her.
@ Kavika
Was that taken from your deck?
It was taken from the just outside the front door to the house Buzz.
I have done things that haunt me in my sleep to make you sleep at night.
I have been away from home for a long time to make your home a safer place.
I have sacrificed a lot in life so that you ma live a life in peace.
I have done these things because I have sworn an oath to my country.
And I will still live by this oath until the day I am buried.
Because I am and will always be A VETERAN.
Wow.....I got pretty emotional!
Beautiful and thought-provoking, Jeremy! Thank you!
I don't know who wrote this. But it is very fitting with what myself and thousands of other service members do.
@ Jeremy
I have taken the liberty of expanding the photos in order to make them more visible. It was intended that the photos be ones of your own or of you, but yours are very effective anyway and the type of illustrating that I was hoping for. Thanks.
However, I would like to point out again that I was expecting photos taken by the person posting, or photos OF them, as this was both an literary exercise but a photography one as well. For example, I took every one of the photos in the article (including my wife's lips) except the one of my hand holding the (seemingly sunburned) hand of my wife, which still qualifies as it is a photo of my hand.
This is a hard challenge Buzz and who the heck will be able to do better than Jeremy-in-NC. ( smile )
Oh well, my humble offering.
Bare Trees
Fleetwood Mac:
"Bare Trees"
Bare trees, grey light
Oh yeah it was a cold night
Bare trees, grey light
I was alone in the cold of a winters day
You were alone and so snug in your bed
I was alone in the cold of a winters day
You were alone and so snug in your bed
Foreigner
"Cold As Ice"
"Cold As Ice"
You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price, I know
Both of those are great!
@ A.H.
Excellent matchups. Thanks for posting.
OK, finally! I've worked and worked on this... This is Owensboro's Indian in a more suitable environment. The poem is quoted from Sarah Patterson, who paraphrased it from Robert Browning.
How did you do that?
I found a picture of the Grand Canyon, trying to look for something the same color as the sandstone base of the Indian. Found one, and cut it down. I had the picture of the Indian from Owensboro, and it is front of an awful industrial background, so I cut it out, blurred the edges and pasted it on top. Merged layers and saved the result...
THEN, I tried to use Google Power Point, to add the quote. That's a nightmare, but this is what I got... I wasn't happy with the font, but it was the best I could do... The poem is one from a book I read many years ago, by Sarah Patterson, so I tried to look it up, and got Robert Browning instead... Long process, it seems...
Thank you for putting in so much effort - at least the result came out just fine.
Thanks, Buzz! I'm handicapped by the fact that I've let my Microsoft office expire... I always used Power Point to put text on things, then saved it as a .jpg. It's a process, and the google brand of powerpoint is really hard to use! I think, anyway. Of course, it's free...
That is really nice Dowser! In fact everything I've seen has been very nice.
Thanks, six! I worked really hard on it, trying to put it all together...

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS (The Beatles)
Excellent, also excellent for combining with the music - although I cannot open youtube I know the song well.
The lyrics … Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
[Verse 1]
Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
And she's gone
[Chorus]
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ahh
[Verse 2]
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
That grow so incredibly high
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
And you're gone
[Chorus]
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ahh
[Verse 3]
Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes
[Chorus]
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ahh
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ahh
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ahh
Posting the lyrics wasn't necessary A.Mac. The song was quite clearly put to reality for me in the days when it was popular, and on rare occasions "with a little help from my friends" when looking at the stars, they did appear to be sparklng diamonds.
Actually it's very difficult to get a Beatles song from YouTube anymore, if possible at all. I don't know who owns those songs now, but they don't want them passed around freely. I really don't know why at this point, haven't they made enough money on them and a lot of younger people will not be subjected to them now. Whatever the case, here is the original.
It was nice to hear it again - thanks.
Twas a double yellow hibiscus
that I was lucky to witness
It's beautiful, dear Pat!
Thank you Dowser !
Absolutely perfect, Pat.
I couldn't agree more. You have a steady hand Pat.

Beautiful, A. Mac!
Double your pleasure, double your fun,
A.Mac's photos can't be outdone.
I was going to put up Nat King Cole singing it, but decided to put the original up instead.
" Stardust " is a popular song composed in 1927 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics added in 1929 by Mitchell Parish . Carmichael first recorded the song, originally titled "Star Dust", at the Gennett Records studio in Richmond, Indiana . The song, "a song about a song about love", [1] played in an idiosyncratic melody in medium tempo, became an American standard , and is one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, with over 1,500 total recordings. [2] In 2004, Carmichael's original 1927 recording of the song was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry .
Hoagy was in 12 movies and one TV show. A few of the well-known movies were To Have and Have Not, The Best Years of Our Lives and The Man With a Horn.
Stardust is one of my favorite songs-- Uncle Louie liked it too!!!
Buzz,
Your challenges have given life to the Photography & Art Forum and Creative Arts Group …
You are to be highly commended!
My pleasure, A.Mac.
And my pleasure is twofold, firstly to enjoy the creativity that is posted by others on my articles, and secondly, being able to establish that there is a lot more to Newstalkers than American politics and the rancor it causes.
Well I borrowed the photos and music to make this. Hope they don't mind.
Very touching.
You all are so talented. I have really enjoyed it. Thank you.
