Arkema CEO: Flood Damage Expected to Cause Chemical Plant to Explode or Catch Fire in Next 6 Days

A chemical plant in Crosby, TX will either explode or catch fire sometime in the next six days, according to a company CEO because of flood damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. And the company has no way to stop it.

“While we do not believe there is any imminent danger, the potential for a chemical reaction leading to a fire and/or explosion within the site confines is real,” the company said in the statement.

Arkema evacuated the site on Monday. Reuters reports that local authorities have ordered a mandatory evacuation over a 1.5 mile radius surrounding the plant.

What is really if not more worrisome is that these companies are not required to reveal what chemicals or other dangerous products are within the location.  Texas cares more about companies then it's citizens.  Crazy nuts

Read a story this morning that talks about what they store:

"The plant manufactures organic peroxides commonly used in everyday products like kitchen countertops, industrial paints, polystyrene cups and plates and PVC piping. The materials must be kept very cool, but refrigerators for the plant's low-temperature containers are out of commission, and backup generators were also swamped, meaning "the potential for a chemical reaction leading to a fire and/or explosion within the site confines is real," the company said."

They say it is an irritant, as opposed to toxic, but who knows these days.  Amazing the amount of damage that Harvey has caused in the Houston area and continues to cause.
