Excellent imagery, AMac.

The red-tail hawk is a magnificent bird.

We once had a bird feeder hanging off of our back yard deck. It was very popular with our feathered friends. One day as I was watching a group of birds feasting on seeds I witnessed a red-tail hawk silently glide down out of a nearby tree and pluck an unsuspecting sparrow off the feeder and continue on its flight path. It was a sight I will never forget.

I've had a number of sparrows picked off of my feeders by Red-tails; when I see them lurking in the poplars in my yard, I initially think about deterring them … but that's not the natural scheme of things so I let it be what it may be.

How is that natural?  Your baiting in prey to make it easier for the hawk, that doesn't seem natural to me.

A fair point to a degree; but because human "progress" has destroyed much natural habitat, IMO, it is incumbent on humans like myself to assure that some birds, etc. are "preserved" via feeders, etc. .

I can't control the "progress" … but I can mitigate some of the fall out.

I can understand why such an attribute is assigned.
