Aussie Lawyer Will Help Christians Promising to Divorce After Marriage Equality

Source

It was two years ago when Nick and Sarah Jensen, a Christian couple from Australia, made a shocking proclamation: If marriage equality were ever legalized in their country, they would get a divorce.

I guess that was supposed to show that gay marriages really do hurt straight marriages… even if their “divorce” was always considered a sham. They fully planned to continue living together and having children even if they were, on paper, no longer together.

What did they think was going to happen? That people would suddenly oppose marriage equality so that this publicity-seeking couple could stay legally married? No one gave a damn.

Making matters more complicated, their sham divorce wouldn’t have been legal since Australian law requires couples to be separated and living apart for a full year before a divorce is granted. If there’s any reason to think the couple will get back together, then the courts can reject the request.

But now that marriage equality has been approved by the people and is on the way to becoming legalized, one attorney says he’ll offer the Jensens pro bono help to facilitate their impending divorce. (Because they’re still getting divorced, right?)

Michael Tiyce, from Sydney family law firm Tiyce & Lawyers, told news.com.au he wanted to help Canberra couple Nick and Sarah Jensen keep their promise to Australia, “because, quite simply, they are going to need it”.

Mr Tiyce said he was only too happy to step into the breach in a complex case and assist the couple in their darkest hour. He noted “Jesus hated divorce, remember,” but wanted to help the deeply religious couple anyway.

“I see it as a call for help, hence my offer.

“My firm does quite a bit of pro bono work in family law each year in the gay, lesbian and trans community, I thought offering assistance to Nick and Sarah would be an excellent way of reaching out across communities with my family law expertise, because quite simply they are going to need it.”

Brilliant. Call them out on their bullshit. At the very least, maybe the Jensens can finally admit they had no intention of getting divorced and same-sex marriage won’t affect their relationship at all.

It’s just another example of Christians crying persecution when none actually exists.

And if they ever do get divorced, at least they’ll go out in style. A Facebook event page called “Celebrating Nick and Sarah Jensen’s divorce” had at least 40,000 signed up before it was taken down.

If they ever go through with it, I’m sure LGBTQ people and allies everywhere will be willing to give them the sendoff they deserve.

Lol!  I guess they didn’t think that through very well.

"Larry Robinson" made the same claim on NV, that he divorced his wife because they no longer felt special after Prop h8 was struck down.

It was a very revealing admission, true or not.

Christians feel empty unless they can claim that they are being persecuted for their silly bronze age beliefs.

It gets worse when one of the groups Christians persecute and discriminate against are treated as equals.

Christians, like most other theistic religions, do not believe in equal rights for others. Religious belief encourages people to believe that they are better than others of a different group because of their belief, so the fact that others might be treated as an equal is an anathema to them.

The fact that religious people are taught to confuse belief with fact is another reason why theistic religion should not be encouraged by society or the state.

The logic they like to use is circular anyway.

Religious belief is the opposite of logic.  There is no point in making a logical argument to religious people because they don't understand logic.  If they were logical then they wouldn't be religious.

This would be a great service to all those Christians looking for a religious excuse to divorce the spouse they are cheating on.  Instead of admitting to cheating on their spouse, they can just play the martyr.

Corinthians 7:39.

A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.

Christian extremists also interpret the condemnation by Jesus of divorce and polygamy as implicitly condemning same-sex marriage.....despite it not being mentioned or condemned anywhere in the bible.    In fact the only examples of same-sex couples are treated positively.

Polygamy and same-sex marriage have nothing in common.

Tennesse is the highest rate of divorce, despite being the center of the bible belt.

True enough but that's never stopped the bible-babblers.    Heck, they even used the polygamy argument against mixed-race marriage too.

Ivecome to the point that there is no reason to construct a logical argument when debating with conservative religious believers because they are immune to logic. If they were logical then they wouldn't be religious conservatives.

The claim of a religious persecution complex is an accepted mental health disorder. The last sentence is very telling.

Persecution : This is a term that refers to mistreatment, discrimination, or victimization of a person or group of people for a specific reason.  In some cases, there may be a logically valid reason for persecution such as torturous imprisonment for an individual that committed a heinous crime.  Most popular types of persecution are related to religious affiliation, ethnicity, and political affiliation – these are not usually justified with rationality.

Some people will do anything not to think logically,  because they can't. Religion loves those people.

Most critics of those who obey Christ are ignorant of what the what Jesus and the Apostles actually stated

Jesus clearly condemned all sex outside of the marriage of a man and  a woman including homosexual behavior.  As God, He is the same from before He created all things, when He walked the earth in the form of a man, today, and for all eternity.  He has NEVER changed his moral standards.

Marriage predates history because it was established by Jesus when He created Adam and Eve. He let the world know that was exactly what He intended when He came in the form of man and declared that and other truths. He also defined what defiles a person before God and sexual immorality including homosexual acts are within the things He declared as wrong.

Jesus who is God most certainly made clear what is acceptable and not acceptable affirmed in Matthew 19 that when He created Adam and Eve, He established marriage as consisting of a man and a woman. Jesus who is God most certainly made clear what is acceptable and not acceptable. He addressed specifically that sexual sins including homosexuality defiles you in Matthew 15:18-20

“But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man. ”Fornication as defined by the law of Mose that Jesus gave to Moses was any sexual relations outside of the marriage of a man and a woman.

In Matthew 5:20 "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven."

Jesus was acknowledged by His apostles and by others as Rabbi and not any Rabbi, but a teacher with Authority meaning he taught not just Torah, the law, but the entire Hebrew Bible, the Tanakh. Very few carried this title over the time period between 30BC and 70AD.

Fornication as defined by the law of Mose that Jesus gave to Moses was any sexual relations outside of the marriage of a man and a woman. Orthodox Judaism restricts sexual activity to a legally permissible marriage between a Jewish man and a Jewish woman. A man and women are even prohibited from being in a closed room alone together if they are not married, a law called yichud, nor are they allowed to have physical contact (a law referred to as negiah).

the Greek word translated "fornication," (porneia, from whence our word "pornography"), is actually a broad word used in the Bible "to denote any form of sexual behavior which is not in accord with Old Testament regulations and the teaching of the apostles..." (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, 1982). Homosexual behavior is without doubt included in the meaning of this word.

From every reading of Talmud, this was clearly the understanding by all who heard Him at the time Jesus taught.

Pornea as used in the Greek Septuagint text of the Old Testament and in the Greek New Testament -Sexual immorality which includes homosexuality is clearly part of that definition and no amount of twisting words can change that.

All of these fell under the definition of fornication

"...against [a man] having union with his mother."

"...against [a man] having union with his sister."

"...against [a man] having union with the wife of his father."

"...against [a man] having union with another man's wife."

"...against [a man] copulating with a beast."

"...against a woman copulating with a beast."

"...against [a man] lying carnally with a male."

"...against [a man] lying carnally with his father."

"...against [a man] lying carnally with his father's brother."

"...against engaging in erotic conduct that may lead to a prohibited union. [That is, petting by persons whose marriage would be illicit.]"

All of that is utterly irrelevant in the US because our laws are not based on the bible or any other religious text. We don't have to obey your religious laws.

Sorry Larry but according to your cult's mythology Adam & Eve were just shacking up, and Eve was a transgender clone made from some dude's rib or chest tissue.   Kind of kinky when you think about it.

And according to mainstream Christianity your buddy Jesus didn't exist at that time.    Your "Oneness Pentecostal" cult has some peculiar ideas not held by most Christians.

.

He also defined what defiles a person before God and sexual immorality including homosexual acts are within the things He declared as wrong.

That's an odd claim since your buddy Jesus ordered his mother to treat his beloved John as her son-in-law.

1.  I don't belong to the heretical oneness Pentecostals.  I belong to both the National Association of Evangelicals and the North American Pentecostal Fellowship

2. You choose to forget that I have given you previously basic Christian doctrine which states that Jesus is the creator God

Deity of Jesus
The deity of Jesus is considered an essential doctrine and is a central non-negotiable belief within Christianity. Also known as the "divinity of Christ," this doctrine asserts that Jesus Christ was and is the Son of God incarnate. As the apostle Paul stated, "the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily" (Col. 2:9; ESV).
"Now the Christian meaning of the term "deity of Christ" is fairly clear. The Christian believes that there is a personal God, Creator and Ruler of the universe, a God who is infinite, eternal and unchangeable. So when the Christian says that Jesus Christ is God, or when he says that he believes in the "deity of Christ," he means that that same person who is known to history as Jesus of Nazareth existed, before He became man, from all eternity as infinite, eternal and unchangeable God, the second person of the holy Trinity." J. Gresham Machen, What is the Deity of Christ?

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-3,14

John 8:56-58 Jesus declares Himself to be YHWH
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”
57 Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

Jesus is the creator
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence Colossians 1:15-18

Jesus is God and Savior
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself Hisown special people, zealous for good works. Titus 2:11-14

God took on human form in the person of Jesus
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
6 Though he was God,he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being Philippians 2:5-7
