"Essential Elements Only" Image Series
I've been producing a series of images in which I have removed as much of the "background" information as possible, leaving only the "essentials," so-to-speak, of the image subject.
If there is an conceptual "opposite" of the objective of this series, I think a proper term might be "documentary," that is, imagery which allows the subject to be viewed in the context it was photographed …
In this series, however, it is the ESSENCE … THE ESSENTIALS ONLY OF THE SUBJECT … these to be viewed against the most neutral, and/or, the most minimal and undefined backdrop …
Hopefully, any given viewer will "accept" (and preferably like) these for what they are intended to be rather than what they might otherwise be if seen in their original "context".
For the record, some images I have enhanced … but all are basically "true" to form and detail.
I welcome all opinions, positive or negative.

3) Swallowtail Butterfly on Cosmos Flower

All opinions welcomed.
It is wonderful, as usual.
More on the way, thank you, Paula.
It's an interesting picture and with the alterations it almost looks as if it is a painting instead of a photo.
It does stand out with nothing else to take away from the image. Nicely done.
Thanks for a complimentary feedback; "painterly" is often what I hope to attain in images I offer directly to the public. Publishers prefer to edit for themselves.
Posted another from the series.
You know my feelings about this. I agree when you comply with your own words "minimal" and "neutral", but rarely "blank".
I like them Mac.
Image 3) is posted …
and good night all.
Very cool images, and again, they come off as painting esk
.
I was a little confused when I read a few of your first sentences of seed description
"I have removed as much of the "background" information as possible, leaving only the "essentials," so-to-speak, of the image subject.
If there is an conceptual "opposite" of the objective of this series"
Perhaps a few similarities could be found in the bizarre events of today.
Delete if needed, didn't want to screw up your little sanctuary here
as
we all need one now and then for sure

If there is a "conceptual opposite" to these images, it probably would be "traditional/unedited/contextual" photography …
" … depending on or relating to the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea …"
By removing all or most of the background in a given photograph, the context/circumstances/surroundings in which the subject was originally photographed, while possibly able to be inferred by the viewer, it nevertheless results in a "distilled"/"concentrated" representation of subject. (IMO)
That butterfly shot - well it made me think of something you said about Mangelsen, that you wanted to be him when you grow up. I want to be A.Mac when I grow up.
I'm flattered, Buzz …
… but let me add … "While we can't stop the aging process …
… I can always act immature.
Many thanks for a most generous compliment.
