After Showing Almost All Of The Women's Super G Skiing Competitors, NBC Failed To Show The Winner, Because She 'Didn't Have A Chance'

America's Lindsey Vonn was the first one to go down the Olympic Super G ski course in the women's final Friday night. Vonn made a mistake in the lower part of the course, veering too far to the right on a turn, costing her perhaps a half second on her time. That half- second proved very costly though as Vonn was passed and knocked off the medal list for the event after just a few other skiers had completed their run.

It must be wondered if the (lack of) drama of watching the American's time hold up for a gold medal, or a bronze or silver, effected the network's decision to not show all of the competitors in their live coverage. The final few competitors were left off the tv show , and when NBC ended it's coverage of the women's Super G,  Austria's Anna Veith was announced as the winner of the gold medal by the NBC announcers Dan Hicks and Bode Miller. Veith was the winner of the gold in the event for the second Olympics in a row and the win was the fourth in a row for Austria , they said. Then they signed off.

I haven't watched much of the Olympics but I was watching this Friday night. As skier after skier came down the hill speeding past the twists and turns set out by the flags planted in the snow, Hicks and Miller kept the viewer up to date as to exactly how far they were off the leader's time. The camera showed Veith nervously watching each attempt that followed her from near the finish line. This went on for over a dozen skiers.

Then Hicks said it was safe to say that Veith was the winner because the only remaining competitors didn't have a chance of winning.  NBC 'ended' it's coverage of the event and declared the top 3 finishers as the medal winners. Hicks said "we will see you tomorrow for the men's super g" and the tv coverage moved on to something else.

Sometime after this , the woman who was to win the gold medal, one of the ones who 'didn't have a chance', came down the hill.

Wow, NBC left women's Super-G having anointed an Austrian the gold-medal winner because didn't think anyone outside of top 19 could win. And someone outside of top 19 just won.

JEONGSEON, South Korea -- As she crossed the finish line for the Olympic super-G Saturday afternoon,? Ester Ledecka?from the Czech Republic looked to the scoreboard, saw a massive green No. 1 next to her name and didn't believe it. Like really didn't believe it.

"I thought this was a mistake," she said. "I was looking at the board, thinking they are going to put up there a couple more seconds. I was waiting and watching until they would change the time. And then nothing happened. Everyone was screaming and I thought to myself, 'OK, now this is weird.' "

Weird because the 22-year-old had never made the podium in 23 World Cup alpine races. Weird because her best result ever in super-G was 19th. And weird because she was actually a snowboarder, the first winter sports athlete to compete in the Olympics in both skiing and snowboard racing.

But there was no mistake. Ledecka's time of 1:21.11 was one-hundredth of a second faster than Austria's Anna Veith, giving her super-G gold in one of the most stunning upsets of these Olympic Games. So perhaps then, it made sense why Ledecka refused to remove her goggles at the post-race news conference.

"I was not prepared that I would be at this ceremony," she explained. "And I don't have on any makeup."

American Lindsey Vonn , the favorite entering the race, finished tied for sixth. Vonn drew the first starting position and was about to post a strong run when she lost control three gates from the finish and nearly crashed. The miscue slowed Vonn by .38 seconds in the final interval, the exact margin by which Ledecka beat her.

"I knew exactly what I needed to do," she said. "I just made a mistake. Everything lined up except for one turn. But that's ski racing. That's why it's so difficult to win at the Olympics because anything can happen."

On Saturday morning, that anything was Ledecka. Before her race, her snowboard coach, retired U.S. parallel slalom racer Justin Reiter, joked to Ledecka that she needed to win Saturday so she could take all the pressure off on Feb. 24, where she's the favorite in the parallel slalom. A few hours later, Reiter watched in amazement as Ledecka stood in the finish area paralyzed by the result.

I remember when the Olympics were 24hrs a day and they didn't cut away from any competition. ANY competition. They showed them ALL, no matter how little they were. You had to look in the TV guide to see the event you wanted to see for the time it was being offered for viewing. Sometimes 2am.

Now the Olympic coverage is nothing but CRAP !

Oh.....and only Amateurs were allowed at the games. Nothing was better than seeing a True Amateur defeat the Professional Russians. Big hugs

My favs. were Hockey, Boxing, Wrestling and Weight Lifting.

I remember the 24 hour coverage too. I think I started losing interest when the professionals started competing.

Wrestling has always been one of my favorites to watch also. My son wrestled from grade school through high School with Coleman Scott. I became addicted... LOL

I think they still have round the clock coverage on the less watched cable and streaming channels associated with NBC. They have relatively few viewers. I read that of 19 million people watching the Olympics on Friday, 16 million of them were watching on the main NBC channel.

The winter olympics are tough because most of the events are sports that the 'average' American never does at any point in their life - skiing, snowboarding and figure skating.

I think I started losing interest when the professionals started competing.

Especially when the "Pros" started trashing hotel rooms.

I really looked forward to the boxing myself. True Amateurs there . Lot's of controversy occurred in that sport.

Roy Jones Jr. out boxing the South Korean in the FINAL, and still losing was a biggy. I think I actually threw something at the TV then.

I quit watching the Olympics avidly during the London Olympics.  NBC's coverage was terrible.  Due to the time zones, a lot of events were already on late at night here.  So what did they do?  Fill in with "fluff" pieces - human interest stories about the athletes.  Or irrelevant stuff, like one town's WWII experience.  Ok, it's midnight, and you have to show this before you'll show the actual sporting events?  I have to work tomorrow.  When you already have plenty of footage from hours ago, and there is absolutely no need to fill in dead air time with crap, don't.  If you do, I'm going to bed.

Yes she did, and that is why she got huge backlash from the American people.  Trump is our President whether people like it or not. Its about respecting the office.

He is not America.

Well this would be a straight up lie. Please dont do blatant lies, when you say something like this , it makes it hard to believe anything else you may have to say.

  He disrespects America and Americans.

I dont see how. Its a pretty vague comment. I dont feel disrespected, why should any person feel that from a President who truly cares for the well being of the USA and its citizens.

Its about respecting the office.

When Trump shows any sign of respecting the office, then maybe I'll start respecting it.

Someone who has lied over 2000 times during his first year as president is not worthy of my respect.  Someone who doesn't staff our Cabinet with anyone qualified, who gives people who can't pass background checks access to classified information, who puts loyalty to himself above loyalty to our country and our Constitution ... nah, no respect due there.  Respect must be earned.

And it's rather ironic .. all the people who said Hillary shouldn't run because she put up with Bill's cheating are remarkably silent about the pussy grabber in chief's affairs.  Melania won't leave him for own reasons, probably related to power and money - and that's up to her - but somehow it's OK if she makes her own decision, yet it wasn't OK if Hillary made her decisions for those same reasons.  Hypocrisy sucks.

I dont see how.

Frequent verbal attacks on anyone who doesn't kiss his ass.  Wasting our money with his ridiculously frequent trips to his own properties, and profiting from the waste himself.  Blatant lies.  Putting together a White House staff and cabinet full of people grossly underqualified for their jobs, and full of enough drama for a telenovela.  Shall I go on?

I certainly didn't feel disrespected by Lindsey Vonn.  But Trump insults my intelligence by expecting me to believe his lies.

Trump really is America, at least some parts of it.  That's what sucks.  People who truly hate others because they want equal rights.  But Trump is over the top with his ego and swamp filling, as you said.  He's far worse than I thought he would be, and my expectations were very low.  Will Jared lose his clearance?  I wish ... I thought that showed poor judgement, not because of his race, but because of his past behavior.  But the risk was hers to take; it had no impact on anybody else.

As far as the Olympics, I thought she skied pretty well - just that one flub on the final curve.  She was in a difficult position, having the first run.  She didn't get to see anybody else ski that run, and I heard they didn't get to do a training run on that course, either.  She was the guinea pig.

Trump represents only a small minority of America.  He's a nightmare.  How is base keeps giving him passes is beyond me.

When Trump shows any sign of respecting the office, then maybe I'll start respecting it.

That is not how it works. You stand behind America.  You dont disrespect it just because you dont like who is in office. Trump is what the States wanted, and he won it by quite a bit.  America as a whole, is in a much better place now than it was in the past.

Someone who has lied over 2000 times during his first year as president is not worthy of my respect.

ya i know what you mean..  If you like your doctor , you can keep your doctor.. if you like your acme insurance and dont want the new healthcare, you can keep it...   , also premiums will come down, it will make it more affordable...  Isnt nice how we are lied to by our leaders.

Someone who doesn't staff our Cabinet with anyone qualified,

Well he is at quite a disadvantage. He is not a career politician who has connections to all the seedy shady shit that goes on in Washington.  He can only go by what career politicians advice that is given to him.  He has not done a great job at getting good people in there, but I can say this, at least he is getting rid of those swamp people.

who puts loyalty to himself above loyalty to our country and our Constitution ...

You can say many things bad about Trump, but saying he doesnt have loyalty to this nation is not supported by facts.  That man loves this nation.  He didnt have run for President. He is on the backside of his life span.. Why would any person who has never been in politics want to just throw 4 to 8 years of their life away to such a demanding job? I sure wouldnt. If I were his age I would be kicking back on vacation after vacation all over the planet.. spending all my money.  Not Trump, he seen how bad of a shape America was in and he felt compelled to make it great again, and by gosh hes doing it well.

nah, no respect due there.  Respect must be earned.

Well he has my full respect. He is not perfect and I am glad he isnt. I am glad he has flaws and I am glad he makes mistakes.  It lets me know he is human like the rest of us who do the same exact stuff.

And it's rather ironic .. all the people who said Hillary shouldn't run because she put up with Bill's cheating are remarkably silent about the pussy grabber in chief's affairs.

Big difference though. Trump was all talk, and never has hard any hard evidence that condemns him.  Bill on the other hand told bold face lies and had hard evidence showing that he did do stuff. Then women came forward that were abused by Bill.  Hillary went after those women.  She didnt care that her husband did these things to women. That is yet another reason why Hillary is a very disgusting person.

Melania won't leave him for own reasons, probably related to power and money - and that's up to her - but somehow it's OK if she makes her own decision, yet it wasn't OK if Hillary made her decisions for those same reasons.  Hypocrisy sucks.

I dont condone any kind of mistreating of women.. whether if it was Bill or Trump or who ever.. Any person who harms a woman and is unapologetic about it gets a huge X in my book.  It needs to be something that is 100 % verifiable and 100 % proven.

Kind of like the money being wasted trying to prove he did something wrong or illegal. When all of this is done and ever with, the left will still be left clueless with not knowing anything more than them having 10 fingers and 10 toes.

Blatant lies.  Putting together a White House staff and cabinet full of people grossly underqualified for their jobs, and full of enough drama for a telenovela.  Shall I go on?

Not his fault really. How is a man who is not a career politician who has deep ties with the corrupt swamp know who to put in office and who not to.  What is great is that he is firing people, or people are screwing up and getting themself booted. It is indeed a swamp there, and it will be hard to get good people to fill in the spots. Most of those people are swamp creatures, so it doesnt matter who he puts in there, they are all part of what is wrong with this nation.

I certainly didn't feel disrespected by Lindsey Vonn.  But Trump insults my intelligence by expecting me to believe his lies.

No he represents most of America. Remember the States elect the President, not the people.  Hillary got the small slice of the States..

She got the most popularity from just 1 state and that is California.  Just one state made the difference on popularity. Not all 50, just 1...

Remember that.

He has been a great powerful leader so far.

He has sewn the seeds of discord.  He eschews diplomacy, playing games with the lives of our military.  He has made us a laughingstock with other nations.  He gave away sensitive intelligence from sources other than our own intelligence agencies, endangering our relationship with an ally, just to stroke his own ego.  He ordered the strike in Yemen that accomplished absolutely nothing positive, because he wanted to play with his toy soldiers.  Ditto with the airfield bombing in Syria.  He has stubbornly stuck to his desire for an expensive wall that will do very little to prevent illegal immigration, but will trample on the property rights of landowners along its path.

Kind of like the money being wasted trying to prove he did something wrong or illegal.

Whether it's wasted will depend on the outcome of the investigation.  I'm sure you were against the witch hunt over Bill Clinton getting a blowjob in the Oval Office, and the multiple Benghazi hearings, yes?  Sure you were.

So much so standing against him may have been the most American thing one could have done.

I would say the same about Trump.

But one, you see as standing for America, and the other you see as disrespecting America.

No hypocrisy there at all.

I believe one can question any President, and still stand for America.  Trump supporters demand special treatment for him, though.  As he does for himself.  It's a bit pathetic, and reveals how little confidence he or they have in him.  A confident man would be able to weather disagreement.  He can't.

playing games with the lives of our military.

Please elaborate on this one.. This man practically hero worships our military and he made sure they get taken care of.

He has made us a laughingstock with other nations.

Truly a false claim, as how many countries are now looking up to the USA once again. What you said, is what countries said about Obama. Trump has been  a breath of fresh air to the world.  Its nice trying to be the world leaders again.

He gave away sensitive intelligence from sources other than our own intelligence agencies, endangering our relationship with an ally, just to stroke his own ego.

Nope wrong --

There’s nothing that the president takes more seriously than the security of the American people. The story that came out tonight, as reported, is false. The president and the foreign minister reviewed a range of common threats to our two countries, including threats to civil aviation. At no time, at no time, were intelligence sources or methods discussed, and the president did not disclose any military operations that were not already publicly known. Two other senior officials who were present, including the secretary of state, remember the meeting the same way and have said so. Their on the record accounts should outweigh the anonymous sources. I was in the room. It didn’t happen.

So the bottom line is, nothing was discussed as you said, and 2 other people where there to back up that claim.  next .....

He ordered the strike in Yemen that accomplished absolutely nothing positive, because he wanted to play with his toy soldiers.  Ditto with the airfield bombing in Syria.

How would you know? Were you there to know if it helped with anything? Are you part of the mission who can attest that it did nothing? Even if it did nothing, so what.. You cant get them all the time.

He has stubbornly stuck to his desire for an expensive wall that will do very little to prevent illegal immigration, but will trample on the property rights of landowners along its path.

That is quite silly because many countries have put up huge walls that helps keep people out. Its not even built yet and already you think it will fail. As for property rights, it is not going to hurt anyone to have a wall that will protect this nation. Those people living there should be proud to have a wall to help keep them and the rest of America safe.

Whether it's wasted will depend on the outcome of the investigation.  I'm sure you were against the witch hunt over Bill Clinton getting a blowjob in the Oval Office, and the multiple Benghazi hearings, yes?  Sure you were.

Bill didnt get in trouble for the BJ, it was the lying he did about it.  Same goes for Hillary.. and yes I think there is still much that needs to be known about it, and Hillary's deception about it, and her private servers full of secretive stuff that she felt needed to be deleted and devices destroyed. People who are afraid of wrath and lifetime prison time do these kind of things..

So your defense is that he's unqualified and ignorant?  I most wholeheartedly agree.

He is totally qualified.. Show me where a qualification for president is that you know the hearts and the future of other people... because that is exactly is what is needed here. He can only go by what people suggest to him.  Trump isnt perfect and makes mistakes and good for him doing so. I dont want a perfect President, I do however want one that learns from mistakes and take measures to avoid them again in the future.

So, is that a qualification, or isn't it?  You seem to be arguing out of both sides of your mouth.  Good judgement of character is something every politician should cultivate.  Trump's idea of good character seems to be 1) They're related to me or 2) They tell me what I want to hear.  Nepotism and cronyism should play no part in naming Cabinet members, but that seems to be the Number One qualification in the Trump administration.

Im sure those mothers who lost their sons would like to know the truth how Hillary and Obama let their kids die, but hey we didnt know them personally so who cares right?

Show me where a qualification for president is that you know the hearts and the future of other people... because that is exactly is what is needed here.

Well it seems like he can trust his immediate family since he knows them better than these swamp people who have been getting fired.

What? You mean about people who are illegally here breaking the law who are criminals?

I didn't say anything about illegal immigrants.  Funny you assume all immigrants are illegal.

How is he looking for trouble? BY trying to keep the nation safe?

By name-calling and inflammatory words?  What a stupid way to "keep the nation safe".

How are you trying to tie SNAP ( food stamps) to the military and Trump?

You are aware that many military families qualify for such benefits, yes?  And the GOP, you know, Trump's party, tries at every opportunity to cut those benefits.  If he loved the military so much, he'd want them to either make enough money to not need SNAP, or leave SNAP alone so they can eat.

I said huge walls.. You said entire borders..

Oh, are we only going to have a wall along part of the border?  That's his plan?

To help ensure safety and kill criminals out of our country, I would be more than happy to give a lot of what I have up

Easy to say when you're not in a position to be asked, isn't it?  Eminent domain isn't a problem when it's somebody else's land that's being taken.

m sure those mothers who lost their sons would like to know the truth how Hillary and Obama let their kids die, but hey we didnt know them personally so who cares right?

We know the truth.  They knowingly moved to a location they were told was difficult to secure.  I believe at least one family has even condemned the politicization of their son's death.

Well it seems like he can trust his immediate family since he knows them better than these swamp people who have been getting fired.

Some of those "swamp people" were hired at the urging of his oh-so-trustworthy family, who are as far in over their heads as he is.

Those are the people I am talking about. Why? Because the only people Trump talks bad about are the ILLEGAL immigrants. Those are the ones we are focusing on to keep out.. However you should be impressed with Trump because he is offering to give them more than Obama ever did by letting a huge amount of them. That would be a democrats paradise having all those votes in their corner.. but once again the dems cant do anything right and now they are going to lose the handout that was given to them by Trump.

If you think Trump has been the only president to have a potty mouth, then you are sadly mistaken.

I would say there are more people non military who use SNAP than military. I have had to use the program myself a few times when I was out of work, or a decrease in my income. In my situation it was needed, but there are many people who abuse and misuse it. I dont think its fair to say Trump doesnt care for the Military just because of the Snap Program.  Not when he is getting a huge increase in money for them, and making it easier to fire people from the VA center. Believe me there are plenty in the VA Center I go to that need to be fired because of their piss poor attitudes, and how they treat me and fellow veterans.

I said huge walls.. You said entire borders..

Oh, are we only going to have a wall along part of the border?  That's his plan?

Im guessing it will completely shut off Mexico from the USA.  Good if it does. There are walls all around the world. There are walls , fences, gates around our homes. We have locked doors.. We do these things to keep the bad people out.

If i had acres of land in that area, and I am sure most of it is ranchers lands that has thousands of acreage, there is nothing harmful to have a wall up at your border line to mexico.

But yes it is easier to want it, when it inconveniences someone else.  Tough luck for them, but they are the ones living there, not me.

IM not sure we will ever know the full truth, only what they want us to know.

The BJ should never have been part of the investigation.  The GOP and Ken Starr made fools of themselves.

It wasn't .However when he committed perjury whwn questioned under oath in the deposition, the perjury charge was part of the investigation .
