LONDON — Call him Sir Ringo now, or Sir Richard to be more precise. Either way, it's a fitting honor for the former Beatles drummer, who has waited decades for the recognition.
The 77-year-old Ringo Starr received his long-awaited knighthood from Prince William Tuesday. He used his real name Richard Starkey for the big event.
He said the honor "means a lot". It comes more than half a century after the youthful Beatles first went to Buckingham Palace to receive MBE awards.
The other surviving Beatle, Paul McCartney, was knighted in 1997.
"I had dinner with him last week and we were both actually laughing about where we came from, and we've ended up in the palace and it's now Sir Paul and Sir Richard," said Starr.
Not sure if they would have knighted John, but if Ringo was, George should have been as well.
I'm happy for Ringo.
I miss George.
Ringo and George were very close. George wrote "It don't come easy" for Ringo, and it turned out to be the biggest hit of all the post Beatle songs of the period.
Did you see George's son at the "Concert for George"? He's almost the spitting image of his father.
I am a big fan of Dhani. He not only looks just like his dad, he sounds like him. He has a very cool band called "Thenewno2" a nod to the 1960's TV show "The Prisoner"
Here is one of his songs:
Please text the title.
It's: Make it home
Congratulations to Ringo, who is one of my favorite people!
I miss George, too. He and Ringo were very close, and I'm glad of that. I miss John, too. He was noted for pushing the envelope... Although, his wife, (Yoko), sure couldn't sing...
My favorite Beatle-never really took himself seriously - many musicians should learn form his example!
This is a well deserved honor for Ringo.
I do, however, take issue with the title of the article.
He is not an ex-Beatle.
He is a Beatle.
Now, and forever.
