Out of all my travels, by far, my favorite is Trier, Germany. I love that the town has so many open air things to do, a rich history of Roman ruins, a cathederal with atall tower with ramps that, in the day, you could ride a horse up. One of the first places I ever saw chalk art (the real deal stuff), buthcher shops and bakeries so close together you could buy a brotchen (bun) and walk next door and get a boneless breaded fried pork chop and make a meal out of it.
I hate cities. I'm a country boy. But, if I had to choose, it would probably be Pittsburgh, PA. It has a country feel to it despite being a city, and my favorite airport in the world is there as well.
I've been there doing a staff assistance visit (the airport) to the Reserve Wing. Friends used to live outside Pittsburgh and I'd visit them......when I think of driving there, the words 'a warren of roads' comes to mind. Fun in a sporsts care and once you understand the route colors and figure out what route your destination is on..........phew....tiring
Located in Northern Thailand it's surrounded by jungle on all sides. The history/culture/food and people are nothing but outstanding. The night bizarre is food, food and more food.
Vegas! jk...I would say Paris. It is the most beautiful city I have ever visited which I would go back to in a heart beat. Second place would be Chicago because of the vibe, the fun, the food, and the warm people.
I've been to Vegas and found it interesting. Being an East Coast born and raised person, the 'Big Sky' country feels a bit foreign (much as friends form out west feel uncomfortable with the canopy of trees everywhere in the Northeast).
My lady friend's daughter is going to Normandy area for an internship this summer...will be flying to Paris and to hours form there to Normandy by train,....yeah, a little bit jealous.
I don't like cities at all, but if I have to choose one it would be Biloxi, MS. The beaches, the casinos, there's an AF base. I just got back from there and I never have enough time to do all the stuff I want to do like a swamp tour or a dolphin tour.
I still have to go to schools there periodically. I always book through Biloxi Beach Resort Rentals and get a condo at the Villas at Legacy. They charge the same rate as the GOV pays for per diem. I'm generally there for 2-3 weeks and would rather have a home to go to than a room with a microwave bolted tot he refrigerator. Plus, generally, I come home form the trip with a bag full of clean clothes and left over per diem for food dollars. All these places have garages, WiFi, cable, some have gas log fireplaces, full kitchen and laundry facilities, plus swimming pools in a gated community.
that's good thinking. We stay on base because it's cheap, and they have laundry facilities, but no cooking. So we bring grills and stuff and cookout on Friday when we get there for the bowling tournament.
My boss turned me onto it. Last 2 times (a 3 week class and a 2 week class), was great. Checked in on Sunday, went to the commissary, bought couple hundred dollars of food and was able to make breakfasts and some dinners, lunch was always out with classmates, sometimes out for dinner, sometimes had classmates over for dinner. Generally, money left over afterwards.
I've visited and lived in some pretty cool places, and really exotic. I have to say though, Tampa has got to be my favorite. Plenty to do and so much of it is cheap or free. Easy to get around as the city is set up as a graph.

I moved away from there 12 years ago and still miss it.
I always loved going down there-we used ot have an annual conference on the 'island' and could walk over and take the train/tram to Ybor City. We also liked walking down the street to the Howl at the Moon Saloon for dinner. Our booking agent would get me on Southwest, leave Buffalo around 7 a.m., walk out into the Tampa sunshine at a little after 10 a.m.
I don't know why spike but, it's hard for me to get just a picture to show up on here, except in my avatar, I can do utubes but, not pictures and, with the way I've moved around all my life, I couldn't just put one up and, have it tell about me.
I go to the embed feature, pick 'Upload an Image', I usually choose the size (512) and select 'normal' form the next drop down window, then upload. Seems to work pretty well.

Okay, your turn.
New Orleans
Thanks for stopping by. From the lead in: Why is it your favorite? Can you provide pictures and Information?
NOLA is a fun place for sure, but in the hot temps, in the day time, the Fench Quarter has a bit of a smell to it......

PA has almost more road than people...
Dear Friend Spikegary: My favorite city is Jerusalem Israel.
There are many reasons.
The most important one is this is where I met, courted and lived with Mrs. E. after we were married in Haifa.
I cannot imagine my life without her.
Enoch.
P.S. 3:00 PM at Zam Bistro's?
E.
That would be a 'yes', we look forward to seeing you and your long suffering (as we Irish Americans would say) spouse!
Chaing Mai Thailand.

I have dozens of photos but all are packed away..
Photo of Wat Rong Khun (white temple) in Chaing Mai Thailand.
For some reason, the photo doesn't show up. I'll have to look on images and see what it looks like.
That is beautiful
Now I can see it!
Gorgeous

Was this for TDY training for the Air Force (you were AF, right?)
I had to go TDY a lot for training, but always to San Antonio.
I went there for Command and Control Training when I was an AB.
I retired from active service after 21 years and now they send me in my GS disguise......
Girdwood, AK
Any reason why?
I spent many weekends there when I liven in Anchorage and fell in love with the city.
I've visited and lived in some pretty cool places, and really exotic. I have to say though, Tampa has got to be my favorite. Plenty to do and so much of it is cheap or free. Easy to get around as the city is set up as a graph.

First time I stepped off the plane from Syracuse the humidity hit me like a wave. Wasn't sure if I'd last the first summer.
Here I am 39 years later and I consider Florida my home state.
LOL, at age 19, I walked off an airplane after 21 hours on Okinawa, Japan. And I felt the same way, but I only stayed for 2 years.
Sunset at St. Pete beach, January of this year.
What a gorgeous sunset! I took this one form my friend's camp, North Bay, Oneida Lake, N.Y. I arrived just in time to grab this as the sun sank:
Great photo Spike.
St. Pete Beach is just south of Tampa on Long Key.
I got lucky-took that one within a minute of getting out of the truck-my buddy said, come here, quick!
Ok, they didn't have cigarette boats when I was a kid but, I still hung out at this beach when I was a kid.
My teen years were here.
Basic Training was here.
Then I was here.
Then I came here.
Then I came here.
Oh, I forgot one.
Sorry, I haven't got any pictures of my own to share, just Utubes.
Well, you were supposed to pick one, but i won't blow you in. Usually you can find some great pics of anything and anywhere at .

I'll have to give it a try, thanks Spike.
Spike, thanks, it worked like a dream.
Cool....I've done my good deed for the day. I'm outta' here for the weekemd!
(aw, shoot, my boss is watching....sigh)
Darn it, I hope you don't get in trouble.
