Catholic high school requires girls to get prom dresses pre-approved
Girls attending a Pennsylvania Catholic high school may be opting for demure rather than daring prom dresses since a new policy requires their garments must be approved in advance.
Delone Catholic high school in McSherrystown Pa. warned its female students they must submit a photo of their prom dress to be pre-approved by faculty before the May 1 dance. The plan states that gowns may not be extremely short, have an extremely low cut front or back, or be inappropriately revealing. Girls who show up in un-approved attire would be turned away at the door.
I think its a little ridiculous, Margaret Eser, whose daughter is attending Delones prom, told the York Daily Record .
The policy, which was put in place on March 1, raised concerns for students who had already purchased dresses for the dance.
I honestly think its unfair, Delone senior Dominique Dockins told the paper.
Senior Bailey Berlich told the York Daily Reader that she attended the prom in the past and was not aware of any policy at that time. She added the school administration had already turned down several dresses her friends purchased this year, even though girls at the last prom wore similarly styled dresses.
Simone Hostetter, who owns a dress shop, told the paper that many girls start shopping for prom dresses in January and that she sold an estimated 200 dresses by the time the policy was put in place.
Delones policy also makes it difficult for girls to get the dress they want for the special night.
By the time they submit the photo, and (the school) gets back to them, that dress is gone. Hostetter told the paper.
Delones principal, Dr. Maureen Thiec, told WGAL News that she understands it is a big expense and inconvenience to be turned away from the prom, and the pre-approval process will eliminate that difficulty.
Delano Catholic has the responsibility to uphold the Catholic values and moral integrity, Thiec added.

They do this all the time, here. The Catholic girl's high schools are private, and very expensive. Few people are allowed to just come without paying about $7,000/year. As such, they can make their own rules, and if you don't like it, you can always go to the public schools. (Which is where my kid goes...)
Ok, I'm not being difficult here, but some people are a bit more voluptuous that others. What may look trashy on one, doesn't on another...
Right before she died, Mama and I were watching The Voice together, while I was at her house working on paperwork and all the other 10,000 things that needed doing. Christina Aguilera was wearing a very beautiful sparkly dress that was cut just so that if I wore it, one could see every inch of my heart surgery scar. Get the picture? This dress on the right wasn't it, as it was cut more on the Maleficent lines... It was "form fitting".
Mama was sick, in every way... But, as usual, I got it. We're sitting there, and she starts: I can't believe she wore a dress like that. That's cut to her navel. (It wasn't, but it was low.) HOw could she??? Isn't she a mother??? Then, it got to: Would YOU ever wear a dress like that? YOU used to go to dances and parties and things. (When I was in college, and she bought all my dresses, so they had to pass the Mother test.) Have YOU ever worn a dress like that? No! I tried to reassure her and head off what I knew was coming next: Well, when you did, did you show your chest like that? I left and went to the table to pay bills. Now, she had convinced herself I had dressed like that.
These days, this is utterly laughable. First and foremost, most people don't enjoy the looks of a heart surgery scar. Second, my chest has managed to give way from my chest wall, so it would require a crane on either shoulder to hold them up. Third, I don't go anywhere that I might wear a party dress of that nature. Fourth, it isn't a style that I would chose. And last but not least, if I was that pretty, I might. But, I'm not.
Picture Queen Victoria, the beloved potato dumpling in that dress, and you'll get the idea...
SIGH.
Oh, golly. Prom dresses inspected by Sister Mary Bitter Titties. I can see it now.
It's a private school. The administration calls the shots.
Of course being a private school, they make the rules. I find it amusing the school has determined the need existsfor dress preapproval. Guess they have parents whose idea of value and moral integrity regarding prom dresses don't gel with the school. In public school, our dresses and those of our girls had to pass the Mom, then the Dad test!
Yup, that's why they have to inspect their clothes for the dance. /s
Maybe they got thing for looking at girls in dresses?
