Blue Angels
This weekend we have the privilege of an air show by the Blue Angels. Being hosted by Keesler AirForce base. I have heard them practicing and making runs past my house. I tried to get a few pics from my house but I am a couple of miles away from the action.
This makes 72 years of the Blue Angels in action.
They are having another show tomorrow. I will try to get some better pictures.
I was to lazy to go down to the middle of the action.
Our local newscaster took a ride in one of the F/A-18 Hornets. You can see his ride from a cockpit cam.

A thirteen minute video of takeoff, a couple of rolls, a loop and landing.
Also video of the show itself.

Amazing jets.
It always amazes me that you see the plane first, then comes the sound. You would not hear them coming until after the fact. They were careful as not to create any sonic boom over land. I remember them doing that when I was young from the AirForce base.
No sonic boom. Bummer.
Lol what a coincidence we're having an airshow up here this weekend too. Didn't take any pictures but get what you mean about the noise.
I was working at the base yesterday so got to see bits and pieces of the practices, everything from a little acrobatic biplane to a big lumbering galaxy. Anyway I get to work the actual airshow tomorrow so I'll see more I'm sure (gotta remember to bring earplugs).
Have fun
Ha. They are loud. They use to have a sort of open base day where one could go on base and view different aircraft up close. They didn't do that this year. It was over the sound instead of the bay where the base is.
Have fun yourself !
Thanks, oh one thing from the practices yesterday was I saw what I'm guessing was a spur of the moment pair up of an F-22 and a WWII era plane. Lol you could tell the F-22 was throttled way back (nose up, tail down) while I'm sure the other plane was giving it everything it had just so they could stay even, anyway it was pretty cool.
They won’t break it for a civilian air show. They did regularly for military air shows back in the day, not sure about now.
They don't do it around here anymore. Haven't for a long time. I was young the last time I remember hearing one. I guess people complained about their houses rattling. Ha.
Keesler AFB doesn't have many planes now either. I believe it is more technical training than anything.
Our Navy base is the construction battalion. Seabees
Once, when they were in town they flew over me low and fast and I realized that if they wanted me dead I would never know what hit me.
I thought the same. One would never know until it is to late.
Very cool video's Ender...
I've seen them a couple of times, really amazing.
Last year we saw the U.S. Army Parachute unit, ''Golden Knights''. If you ever have the opportunity to see them it's well worth it.
Had to look them up. Looks like it would be a something to see.
They will be kinda close to me later this year in Alabama. About 1 and 1/2 to 2 hrs away.
They would be worth the trip to see. I think that your really enjoy them.
They used to practice over my home on base in Cal at the top of the highest point on the air field.
The copters would slow the rotors to a point where the body was rotating slowly and the GK would jump out of a perfectly good air frame.
While they seemed to be directly overhead, they always managed to glide to the other side of the hill and land on the flight line.
Although you posted under "Entertainment", your efforts would apply just as well to the "Photography and Art" forum, or to the Creative Arts group - it's great photography.
I, too, live near an air base, in fact one that has historic significance for America as well - it's the base of the WW2 Flying Tigers. It's obviously been expanded to service jets, and they practice many days of the week, flying overhead. The first time I heard a sonic boom I thought it was a huge explosion nearby - first time I ever heard one, but at least it's a rare event. I once took a photo of one flying overhead, but it was with an older camera that didn't have as great a zoom as my new one so it's kind of fuzzy.
I replied to you but forgot to hit reply button. Ha. See below.
Yeah, I didn't know what to classify it as.
Thanks for the pic. It's hard to get a good one of them. I am sadly still using my phone. I am going to break down one day and buy a nice camera as I like to take pictures. I think it did pretty good as right now I am north of the action. There is the bay then the peninsula then the sound.
They are flying again tomorrow so I am going to try to get at least one halfway decent pic.
Sorry that was to Buzz.
