Buried Treasure

Silently obscured
beneath shoveled earth
you lie like a princess
wrapped in the dirt.
Gold are your tresses
that shone in the sun
whose rays cannot reach
where they danced merrily once.
Deeper than your sleep
sinks the sorrow in my heart,
the hazel of your dazzling eyes
plays mournfully in the dark.

A priceless treasure lies buried, one that I can never replace. My Daffy passed away two days ago, her soft, golden fur gleaming in the sunlight, her head upon my lap.

Neetu, I'm so very sorry for your family's loss. Wish I had words to make it easier but there aren't any. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

Oh, Uppy, yes, that is what a dog would will! Daffy was my second pup, the first left us even sooner and younger, before we could blink an eye, she was there and then, she was gone. I know that I learned a lot from both! Thank you for the beautiful message.

Thank you, flame. Dogs do not judge us, I guess that is why they are the best thing about people.

The Rainbows Bridge Poem

RainbowBridge.com

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

RIP Daffy

Neetu....

I am so sorry for your loss. I shed tears to share with you. I know that you have hundreds of pictures, and millions of memories, but the loss is still a hard thing to bear.

The Rainbow Bridge helped me when I lost my best friend. I still cannot read it all the way through without breaking down in tears. The loss of a loved one will never go away, but the memories will always be there, too. God bless you.

Neetu,

There are no words to make the passing of one's pet any easier. I would like to think that we will meet them again one day. But until then, there is a void that no other can replace. Each pet we have holds a special place in our hearts and there they will live.

Thank you, sweet Raven. We hold on to the memories and I have so many! Dear old Daffy resides firmly in our hearts and our lives, no matter where she is. I am just so fortunate to have had her in our lives! That is a blessing I am so grateful for.

Neetu I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. If there is a Heaven, there is a Heaven for our best friends for they are one of the most precious gifts we could ever have in our lives. I remember every gift I've ever received, will never forget the times we spent together and often reminisce of those times.

Feelings of love and sorrow for those so precious who brought us so much joy during their short life spans will always touch our hearts even many years into the future as I still remember my first big loss when I carried Ginger down an old dirt road in the back of my wagon as a child.

I may have left Ginger at the end of that old dirt road as a buried treasure, but Ginger has never left me.

Thank you, Mike. I do still remember when you lost your buddy, Dakota. It is heart-wrenching to lose someone who is always beside us, always eager to see us, always waiting for us. It is early days still, I suppose, and I miss my Daffy's eyes following me everywhere, her ears perking up at the familiar sounds, her soft body lounging lazily by my feet whenever I sat right here, where I am writing this right now. My daughter and I talk a lot about her, allow ourselves to shed the tears when they won't be kept back, hug each other and look at her pictures. One day at a time. Just like you have done.

Thank you, Six, for your words of comfort. I didn't know you doggie was Ginger - did you ever tell me about her? I am assuming it was a she. What short lives they have, yet how much they fill ours! Yes, like your Ginger, my Daffy will never leave me. Just as Goldie before her never has. She, too, lives in my heart just as much, 10 years after she died. Daffy and Goldie were both goldens but how distinct their unique characteristics! Just like my children.

Neetu

My condolences on your loss

A pet quickly becomes a member of the family and the mourning and hurt when a pet passes is very real.

We lost out "Toby" in 2006 after being her designated care givers and companions for a little over 14 years. We have a picture of her on the wall and still talk about things she did - we have not been able to think about another pet since she died.

Dearest Neetu, I am so very sorry for your loss-- the loss of our pets are losing our soul mates, friends, companions, and fur-child. I know it is of little comfort to you, but I would hug you in person if I could, and wipe away your tears.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes Ginger was a female and the mother of many. And I've had several Gingers, male and female since then and it's always the same for me as I know it is for you at this time. A friend of mine has Mollie. I remember her when she was just a little puppy, beautiful blond mixed. She will be 19 years old if she lives a couple more months. She's old but doesn't seem to be having any other problems which could prevent that time from coming and going. I don't know if I've ever known of a dog living that long before.

I so wish our Daffy had lived a few more years! Just a few more. She was going to be ten this month, Six. Dogs don't live to 19 much. It is rare, but somehow 10 seemed so young. She had aged a lot over the last 2 years. Her fur had changed to almost white on her face but her body still had the deep gold color. Still, what can we do? Nothing really, but mourn and feel sad that they are gone so soon.

Yes, Mike, she had lymphosarcoma, which I believe is common in golden retrievers. We only got the diagnosis 2 weeks ago. Her lungs had filled up with so much fluid from the tumor they couldn't even see her lungs on an xray. They drained the fluid, about 2 liters, then did an ultrasound and found the mass. It had already spread to her lungs. There was nothing that would have helped her. We could have kept draining her fluid but after the first time, it came back within 5 days. Repeats would have prolonged her life but the cancer was aggressive and steroids did not help, although they put her on them.

We had to put her to sleep. I found a home euthanasia vet who came home so Daffy would be surrounded by her family and in the home she loved before she went to sleep on my lap. It hurt to see her go to sleep, never to wake up. I felt awful but there was nothing else we could do. She was unable to breathe properly, couldn't even lie down the last few days.

Neetu, I read some of the other posts and found out what happened.

I know how hard this is, as I have lived through it, too. I don't know that you can do this right now, but in the coming days, please comfort yourself with the knowledge that you kept her from suffering further, and let her go because you loved her. I have absolutely no doubt that if she could have, she would have done the same for you, had the situation been reversed.

You have done the hardest thing any of us can do for our dear ones. You let her go to be free and without pain and suffering. She wouldn't have wanted you to suffer, either. You loved each other, and that is what matters.

I truly believe that we will see them again.

When one of my three Shih-Tzus goes I'm planning on having them cremated and their ashes scattered in the desert wind from one of the nearby mountains. To have a grave to visit would mean me never leaving.

Damn it! Now I'm bawling again! Crap!
