British Man Racks Up $45,000 in Speeding Tickets in 3 Hours in Lamborghini Huracan
A 25-year-old British man racked up a stunning $45,000 worth of tickets in just three hours behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracan in Dubai last week, according to a a British tabloid—and now the man and the rental car company are in the midst of a standoff over who should pay the fines.
According to The Sun , the unnamed British tourist spent the same length of time as that tour Gilligan and the Skipper had been planning blasting along desert highways like the Sheikh Zayed Road in the rented Lamborghini at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour early one recent morning—a joyride that, unsurprisingly, caught the attention of the all-seeing eyes of speed cameras lining the route. In fact, those cameras managed to capture the Huracan flaying the speed limit no fewer than 33 times over that three-hour span, leading to the eye-watering amalgamation of fines.
But like an M. Night Shyamalan film, here's the twist, and there is a twist : In Dubai , traffic fines accumulated on a rental car are the legal responsibility of the company that owns the vehicle. And according to The Sun , the tourist who rented the car for two days still hasn't returned it yet to face their presumably very, very angry faces."We can’t pay this amount should the car be taken into impound, it’s still with the tourist, parked at his hotel," Faris Mohammed Iqbal, the 26-year-old owner of the rental car company, told The Sun . "Who pays the money for the impound? We shouldn’t do so for sure, its his fault and he should pay that amount.”
The British man paid about $1,550 on July 30th to rent the car for two days, according to the paper. He also reportedly gave the rental car company his passport as collateral—and the rental firm still has a hold on it. Nevertheless, it seems unclear whether the Brit can zip back to his homeland or not without his passport, as the government of the United Arab Emirates apparently won't be forcing him to stick around.
“We obtained copies of all the violations and immediately submitted a request for a travel ban on the tourist," Iqbal told The Sun , "but the request was rejected."
As for why Iqbal's company hasn't gone to the tourist's hotel and snatched back the Lambo itself, Iqbal told The Sun that doing so would mean the Huracan would disappear into police custody. "I won’t be trying to take it back because once I do, I know I have to surrender it to police," he said.
Wow, tough on the rental company.....
They can sue him for it, can't they?
Trout certainly could but would the cost of pursuing an international lawsuit outweigh the cost of the tickets?
I don't know. Probably not. I'm guessing a lawsuit might be in the millions of dolllars
I've got some experience in the military renting vehicles and don't really see this as a problem. We would pay the ticket cost and then pass the cost on to the users CC. This tourist would have provided a CC with the rental, I mean that's pretty much standard around the globe in case the car comes back with damages.
If the guy has like a $5K credit limit on the card, might be hard to charge $45K onto it.......especially w/o a signature.......and pursuing internationally? That could add even more problems to the mix.
Possibly although Dubai is a very expensive place which would be very hard to stay for 2 weeks on such a limit (but there could be other CC's or cash). Who knows how this will go, but lol I'm willing to bet that if this company doesn't go bankrupt they'll amend their standard rental contract to cover this sort of thing
And the guy might get away with it. Damn.....
Well, there's a law that need to be rewritten........
It's Dubai, I'm sure they have some type of reasoning for the way the law is set up, though I certainly don't get it........
BTW, for the purists out there, I know, I know, but I don't have a picture of a Huracan handy, so I stuck in the Countach pic.
That Tourist is having some fun for sure.
That took some doing to rack up 45K in speeding tickets. Was he going at MACH 1?
IN 3 HOURS!!!!!!!
Going 150 miles an hour you can cover a lot of ground. He made it through 33 speed cameras. If we do the math, and just assume he was doing 150 for all three hours, that's 450 miles which would put 1 camera for every 13.6 miles which works out to about one for every 22 kilometers. I'd bet they have them placed every 20 kilometers and he wasn't actually maintaining 150 mph for the whole 3 hrs.
Ok...let's assume that's 33 tickets. They must give out tickets like they do here, the faster you're going, the more you pay
Edit: I just did the math. That's $1,363.64 per ticket
That sounds about right if we assume he did 150 mph
If I were a high school math teacher I'd certainly have this word problem on the next test.
"If a man rents a Lamborghini and drives 660 kilometers in 3 hours and received tickets totaling $45,000 in fines at $1,363 per ticket, what average speed was he traveling (in mph) and how many kilometers were there between each speed camera?"
Answer: 137 mph average and 20 kilometers between each speed camera.
That would be a good math problem!
Do you teach math?
I do not, but I have to use it a lot as an insurance agent.
Well, I stayed at a Holiday Inn.
Dear Friends: I don't mean to play one upsmanship or brag here.
The Enochobile went from 0 to 3 MPH with bald tires down a steep incline with a strong wind behind it in less than half a day.
Local constabulary bought me a coffee as a gesture of consolation.
All bragging rights retained.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh

If he had been a she....no tickets.
Well, I was wondering what one could do while vacationing in Dubai. Now I know
down with speed cameras
These are my grandparents and assorted rellies. The car is one that was borrowed from the local white guys. It seems we were having a real estate problem in the old Minnesota territory. A fast get a way was needed.
My great uncle, Luther Walks The Horse, figured the horse couldn't handle everyone so what could be better, ''borrow'' a car from the guys we were having a real estate problem with and leave them horseless....
That is too funny...
Dear Brother Kavika: Impressive.
What is the story under the hood?
The Enochobile has .75 lame dual singularity engine horsepower.
When it sputters and coughs during acceleration, it sounds horse.
My OldsmoBuick, can stop on a dime.
Unfortunately, the dime is usually in the front pocket of the driver in front of me.
--- And let's not talk about fuel consumption.
Seriously, let's just not speak of it.

This is also the first Rezmobile.
We shall not bring this up again.
Dear Brother Kavika: LOL.
Priceless!
Thanks.

Lets just say, it's a good thing we don't have cameras on the interstate.
