Disagree with someone? Call them another Hitler!

Adolph Hitler -- one of the worst mass murderers in all of history -- has now become the go-to metaphor

in comparison for anyone you have a minor disagreement with.

After reading this seed ( A Leading Holocaust Historian Just Seriously Compared The US To Nazi Germany ) & the accompanying comments on NT today, it reminded me of an unusually excellent (and very funny) commentary by the man who IMHO is perhaps the most brilliant political commentator today!

Unfortunately, NT's totally asinine HTML code won't allow embeds of this video, so if you want to see it-- click HERE.

When it comes to comparing American presidents to Hitler-- even protestors as far away as Egypt love to get into the act!

If someone acts like an asshole, should you compare them to Hitler? Of course not, though I'm sure Hitler was one Grade A asshole. If a politician says something you disagree with should you compare them with Hitler? Again, of course not even though you likely disagree with most of Hitlers policies and political positions as well. But when a populist leader uses the same rhetoric to gain power, when they lie about their opponent, when they suggest taking away media licenses and the freedom of the press when they hear bad press about themselves, when they blame minority groups for all the problems of their constituency and pit them against them in a financial and ideological battle, when you promise your followers paradise if they only destroy your opponents, when you use racial animosity to gin up hatred and anger towards certain groups, well then you're being a Hitler and have earned the comparison. Trump is the closest thing I've ever seen in American politics that actually meets all those horrifying requirements and has well earned the comparisons many educated historians have made to the despots and dictators of our recent past.

It's a fact often lost on those wanting to distance their party or leader from Hitler.

Godwin's law (or rule) states "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches 1, that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Adolf Hitler or his deeds, the point at which effectively the discussion or thread often ends.

However, when discussing Trump and his followers there is no need for a lengthy debate that eventually, sooner or later, results with comparisons to Hitler. With Trump the similarities are apparent right on the surface. And the comparisons are even more noticeable when looking at Trumps friends and allies he's made since taking office. He befriended Putin who has attacked our nations independence and our free and fair election process. Putin's murdered dissidents, journalists and political opponents, he's forcibly taken over Russian media, he blames all the Russian peoples problems on foreigners and likely planted several bombs in apartment buildings murdering hundreds of his own people just to establish a better grip on power and to blame it on insurgents and terrorists. Trumps other friend Kim Jong Un murders his own people and their families for not being loyal enough, starves them and works his people like slaves. Trumps global allies that he's been praising since taking office are the exact same kinds of despots you would have found allying themselves with Hitler. They are the new Hirohito and Mussolini's and they treat their people about the same or worse.

If you're an impartial student of history, you have to actually ignore many facts in order to avoid seeing Trump and his murderous cronies as the new axis powers.

There is another very strong similarity between trump and another rather prominent nazi...

Think about all the times trump has blamed someone, of something, only to be found later to be guilty of the same thing?

Corrupt Hillary....but trump has been sued for FRAUD ~3,000 times. Not to mention his ties to the mob in NY, which is how he ended up getting building contracts through the 90's where other contractors couldn't.

Lying Hillary...yet trump lies 4x as much as Hillary does.

Pay for play Hillary...trump paid off the AG's of Texas and Florida to drop their cases against Trump University, (yet another fraud case).

"Fake NEWS!!!!!".... Almost literally every time trump has claimed that something is/was fake news, it's been proven to be 100% REAL news. Stormy Daniels is just one of HUNDREDS of examples. He said that the, "whole stormy daniels thing is fake news", and it kinda wasn't.

The list of instances where trump has blamed someone of something, only to be found guilty of exactly the same thing is damn near endless.

I have known about Godwin's Law for some time. I agree in part--- sooner or later someone will make a comparison to Hitler. (The exception being the rare discussions I;ve been in where everyone was very intelligent-- but in my experience, that is very rare...at least online!).

However, it has not been my experience that at the point where a comparison is made to Hitler the discussion ends. Because it usually doesn't.

The only possible explanation I can give for Godwin saying that is that perhaps he said it in the early days if theb'Net-- things were somewhat different then. (Intelligent discussions were much more common).

But then what would you expect from someone like Godwin-- the guy was a regular Hitler!

Your right, that was one of Goebbels tactics.

You do include all the allegations and accusations the democrats are making in this overall sweeping analogy also?

Aren't you?

That must make them especially guilty too doesn't it?

You took it right out of Goebbels mouth so I guess it must be true.....

Or are you just pointing it at T-rump and the republicans cause you have nothing else?

Well, I'm not sure.

Later doing the exact same thing you accused someone else of doing might not necessarily make you a Nazi-- i see it as more making that person a hypocrite!

(All hypocrites are not necessarily Nazis).

The only one of those things that is really true is that he promised to make America great again. That's something lots of politicians do, including Bill Clinton.

Goodwin's Law.

American attorney and author Mike Godwin coined his eponymous law on Usenet in 1990. Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule of Hitler analogies) is an internet adage asserting that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches 1"; that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Adolf Hitler or his deeds. Promulgated by the American attorney and author Mike Godwin in 1990.... [There] is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that, when a Hitler comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever made the comparison loses whatever debate is in progress.

(I don't mean to simply repeat what you have just so perfectly stated..)

His tweet, referencing people associating trump and some of his supporters as "nazi's"....

By all means, compare these shitheads to Nazis. Again and again. I'm with you.

Mr Frost,

You do realize that Godwin is ridiculing those making the nazi/hitler references don't you?

His argument and self proclaimed "LAW" was that whenever someone is loosing the debate and run out of ideas to move it forward, they start making appeals to base emotions of which the lowest and most easily started is hate....

Facts, Logic and Truths have failed so all that is left is emotion.

So Godwin's Law is that whenever someone has lost or is loosing a debate, they invoke a hated image and point it at their opponent as a simile. Lower ranked liberals use it to rally the troops cause they are most susceptible to it but I have seen conservatives do it also...

It is a sign that the debate is over, the ones being accused have won......

Mr Godwin's Tweet?

He's exhorting to all the liberals that are now comparing T-rump to Hitler and Conservatives to Nazi's that they are now demonstrating beyond any shadow of doubt that they have nothing left except blind hatred.... (and to keep right on doing it)

Mr Frost, I'm not sure that was what you intended to state by posting this, but it IS what it is....

Donald J. Trump is now invincible.  He may be historically recorded as the most influential, powerful man in history.  His influence is already exceeding that of Jesus.

"You will bow and kneel."  The Omarosa.

It is time that all who oppose Trump to surrender, beg forgiveness and hope that Trump does not seek revenge.

Dr. Ronny Jackson, the former WH physician, has stated that that the new Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh can easily live to be three hundred years of age.

Surrender.  Opposition is pointless.

Pointless?

Well, I suppose that's good news-- at least it isn't futile!
