This is a "year end" column by the Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin.

I like the approach. Just a few words that convincingly demonstrate that 2018 was a disaster for Donald Trump. 2019 will no doubt be worse, and 2020 worse yet. Is the picture becoming clear?

We are in what may be a prolonged period of a Donald Trump political death watch. Once people decide that Trump is psychologically and mentally and morally unfit to be president, he will never get those people back again. The mid term election demonstrated that he has been rejected by some of the people who put him in office. It is only going to go downhill for him from there.

How much more damage can be done to the frayed and torn fabric of American society over the next two years though? Trump should be persuaded to resign.

Trump can't be persuaded to stop tweeting...what makes you think he could be persuaded to resign?

It is the only available alternative to impeachment. It is very unlikely the cowardly republicans will vote to remove Trump through impeachment.

All that's left to contemplate is two more years of this daily nonsense. The Trump era is arguably the most disgraceful period in American history that is not related to slavery. I wish more people in the country, and on Newstalkers realized that.

Trump cannot be saved and cannot be rehabilitated. The majority has decided , correctly, that he is a piece of human garbage. Why prolong the inevitable?

It may still happen.  Let's see what happens when Trump Jr. or Ivanka get indicted.  I'm sure he will issue pardons for them, but I am also sure that state level indictments will promptly be submitted as well.

If it is unlikely that Trump will be impeached...what would be his motivation to resign?

I haven't seen a Presidential candidate that prefers to serve the public instead of serving themselves in a very long time. Trump's nomination and election is a break from the political power pattern...something both Republicans and Democrats should make note of when considering nominees for 2020.

Best keep Marine One fueled up for a quick escape to exile as an illegal refugee...
