Cell signal puts Cohen outside Prague around time of purported Russian meeting

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

WASHINGTON

A mobile phone traced to President Donald Trump’s former lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen briefly sent signals ricocheting off cell towers in the Prague area in late summer 2016, at the height of the presidential campaign, leaving an electronic record to support claims that Cohen met secretly there with Russian officials, four people with knowledge of the matter say.

During the same period of late August or early September, electronic eavesdropping by an Eastern European intelligence agency picked up a conversation among Russians, one of whom remarked that Cohen was in Prague, two people familiar with the incident said.

The phone and surveillance data, which have not previously been disclosed, lend new credence to a key part of a former British spy’s dossier of Kremlin intelligence describing purported coordination between Trump’s campaign and Russia’s election meddling operation.

The dossier, which Trump has dismissed as “a pile of garbage,” said Cohen and one or more Kremlin officials huddled in or around the Czech capital to plot ways to limit discovery of the close “liaison” between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The new information regarding the recovery of Cohen’s cell phone location doesn’t explain why he was apparently there or who he was meeting with, if anyone. But it adds to evidence that Cohen was in or near Prague around the time of the supposed meeting.

Both of the newly surfaced foreign electronic intelligence intercepts were shared with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, people familiar with the matter said. Mueller is investigating Russia’s 2016 election interference and whether Trump’s campaign colluded in the scheme. Mueller also is examining whether Trump has obstructed the sweeping inquiry.

This is a big story. If it is true it gives immense credence to the Dossier.

McClatchy seems to be hitching their journalistic reputation to this story.  The stakes are high.

"Cohen In Prague" has become the holy grail of trump-Russia collusion evidence.

This is a big story.

Actually it is false. Cohen has always denied it and now his lawyer Lanny Davis (former Clinton operative) also denies it. Cohen never even had a passport for Prague. What it shows is how certain people fed false stories to the media (in this case McClatchy). The purpose of witch was obviously to lend some credibility to the "Dossier". The Washington Post spent a lot of time trying to verify if this story was true and never could.

So for McClatchy and now you - Prove there was signals from Cohen's phone in Prague.

Davis is no longer his lawyer.

Cohen never even had a passport for Prague.

Nope, he had one for Germany. Do you travel much? Once you get a visa from one of the Shengen territory countries you don't need a visa, nor do you need to get your passport stamped to travel directly between them. They have open borders on the interior.

If you get in trouble, get sick, reported missing they just run your passport say, in Spain. It will come back that you entered through whatever terminal in the territory.

What it shows is how certain people fed false stories to the media (in this case McClatchy).

Nice try but McClachky has been on this bone for some time. They have more than one official confirmations of the pings.

In April, Peter Stone and Greg Gordon reported for McClatchy that Robert Mueller had obtained evidence that Cohen did indeed visit Prague. Today the pair have a new report with much more detail. Cohen’s phone pinged off cell-phone towers in Prague during that period, according to four sources. Also during that period, an Eastern European intelligence agency electronically surveilled a conversation in which one Russian said that Cohen was in Prague, according to two more sources. The reporting is the opposite of thin. If the conclusion is wrong, it is a massive journalistic error.

It is possible, of course, that all these sources are wrong. It is also possible that Cohen did visit Prague, and either did not meet with Russia, or met to discuss innocuous topics, and then lied about it. But the more probable explanation by far is that Cohen did visit Prague and did meet with Russian agents.

What would all this mean? Well, it would mean just about the worst possible thing for Trump. There’s no chance Cohen took such a meeting without Trump’s direction. As Cohen told George Stephanopoulos earlier this month, “ nothing at the Trump organization was ever done unless it was run through Mr. Trump ” — certainly an international trip to covertly meet Russian intelligence officials would qualify as a matter Trump had to approve. As the previous McClatchy report indicates, Mueller has the evidence of Cohen’s visit to Prague. (Cohen continues to deny ever having visited Prague.)

And Cohen is cooperating with Mueller on questions related to Russia. “Cohen provided the SCO with useful information concerning certain discrete Russia-related matters core to its investigation,” asserted Cohen’s sentencing document. There are multiple channels through which Trump possibly or probably colluded with Russia during the campaign: Roger Stone , Paul Manafort , Michael Flynn , Donald Jr. But none of them may pose as dire a threat to the president as his fixer turned prize-witness for the prosecution.

nothing for nothing, but there have been hundreds of stories about cell phones being cloned.

Either Cohen was there with his cell phone or someone else was with his phone or a clone.

How many dozen cell phones did the FBI "collect" from Cohen?

Cohen maintains his "innocence".

The real question is, "why would someone do that"?

Identity theft mostly.  These young people keep credit cards on different phone apps like Uber and Lyft.

Easy to hack if you have the account number.

Fair enough, I just think it would be a far too convenient excuse. Along the lines of, "Oh those drugs? But these aren't my pants!!!".

The real question is

The real question is why would McClatchy editors print a story with no proof or better still why are so many news organizations now doing the same thing?

Cohen today: I hear #Prague #CzechRepublic is beautiful in the summertime. I wouldn’t know as I have never been. #Mueller knows everything!

So either mueller star witnesses lying, Again, or mcclatchey’s reporting is wrong, again
