Back when I was a teenager, we used to have a New Year's Eve dance at our community centre, and it was necessary to ask a date as much as 2 months in advance in order to be able to kiss the girl of your dreams at midnight. I recall also that it was formal, and we would buy our date a corsage.
These days, and where I am, since I actually get to celebrate 3 New Years each year, December 31 is not so important as it once was. Chinese New Year (on the lunar calendar usually late January or early February) is very special here when families get together and the food is fantastic.
新年快樂 (simplified: 新年快乐, pinyin spelling xīn nián kuài lè, pronounced sseen nee-ahn kwhy luh) is Happy New Year in Chinese. Everyone wishes everyone else a Happy New Year here, and when I say it to strangers, like shopkeepers, it always gets a big smile and a return greeting.
That is interesting.
Julia and Irina have the conventional New Year and also "Happy Old New Year" which is January 9th this year. Then again Christmas is the 6th/7th this year.

My hubby and I will be staying in feasting on all that bad food (potato skins, bacon wrapped scallops, chicken wings...) and consuming some alcoholic beverages. We will probably be in bed before the ball drops since we both have to work Dec 31 and our day begins early.
As far as New Year's resolutions, I have to say I started mine after my father's memorial service on Dec 7th. It is keeping more in touch with family. My family splintered years ago when my parents split and my father remarried over 30 years ago. I regained a close relationship with my sister 10 years ago, but remained estranged from my brothers, mother and father. With my father's passing I have decided to work on the family relationships that remain.

Can old acquaintances be forgot?
We use to have a party every year. With a fire outside. It was kind of a tradition to burn a Christmas tree. Seeing one of those burn up is a trip. Should have taken a video of it one time.
Some would also throw old string lights on the fire. They emit a lot of colour. Probably toxic, but it is cool looking.
We always set off a fireworks show at midnight.
This year will probably be small though. A couple of friends and relatives.

Nothing. I had to work, then come home to an empty house and do dishes, clean up after my cats. Then defend myself against a person that I defended for YEARS on end, only to have them treat me like shit. I am done with humanity, I am done trying to make others fell good while they shit on me in the process. I am done giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to people that whine and cry that I didn't give more. I am tired of comforting and giving all I have to people that can't even bother to say, "thanks", for all that I have given. I have given blood, sweat and tears for the country that I love, only to have people here tell me that I am an, "anti-American", "liberal". You don't like it? Fuck you. Come on over and we will discuss it!

Hmmm..that is why you quietly go about your own business Frosty and if people don't like what you do or say..that is their problem...Remove yourself from such people and do your own thing and be happy with that. As I use to think about some people I had to work with...."I may have to work with you, but I sure as hell don't have to socialise with you"...I am happy with my own company and my dog and cat...I pick and choose who I go and have a coffee or lunch with..because I enjoy their company and not because I have to..."Clean up after your kitties??" I assume they have a scratch tray etc so easy fixed..But they give you their unconditional love and company and be happy with that..Yep 2018 was the pits in many ways but look upon 2019 as the unknown, which it is and who knows what it will bring..No doubt there will be bumps along the road of life...but with all things you take it as it comes...meet it head on, as we do and just make the best of it...and be happy with that...Happy New Year Frosty, regardless and I do hope it is a better one for you...PS: You can always migrate Down Under..plenty of sun, surf and sand here..Oh and snakes, croc's, spiders, jelly fish..oh ummm second thoughts you maybe better off there with your kitties...
