411 on What's Going On on NT

Hi Everyone,

The download of the site has begun and it is hard to know when it will be finished, since it's 4 years of material. When it is finished, we will go offline for a short period of time when the site is repointed from Ning to Jamroom. Once that is done, emails will go out to you for your passwords to the new site, but we will still be running here, but at this addy:

thenewstalkers.ning.com

During that time you can still post here, but some of your comments might not be picked up in the second round of downloads.

Once you get your passwords (you can check here to see if I have sent them out), then you can sign in at the new site. This site will remain active at the addy above, so no worries.

If you are having problems for any reason, please take down this email address:

perriehalpern@gmail.com

Fingers Crossed!

Have you not already posted on the new site? How did you do that without a password?

How long is this Ning site to remain active? Doesn't that complicate things?

Sorry for the delay folks... here is the issue..

It's because Ning doesn't allow for transfer of groups. So here is what happened. I didn't transfer over deleted accounts... and because of that, any group that's owner left, even if it was temporary, the group didn't transfer to the new site. So now we have to import all the deleted members to get the groups to transfer to the new site. That is slowing up the show here.

Let the groups start over. It's not the Congressional Record.

Too many of them and they would be upset. It will just take a bit longer than expected.

Yup.

We've probably all lived through big IT mutations... and I'll bet that not a single one has ever gone exactly as planned.

No problem, Perrie. We're anxious, but patient.

2. Call internet service provider and curse at them in a foreign language.

I like that plan . I am looking at using Russian . It is very scary if only because of the weird alphabet :

A couple of questions/points

Still no email with password info

When I go to the "pointed site" all I see is the "down for maintenance message"

Are you guys trying to tell something? Smile.gif

Ning To Jamroom helps you easily move your Ning site to Jamroom - freeing you from monthly payments for a site with an uncertain future.

All of your data is owned by you when it is on your server.
There are no limitations on how you extend your community.
100+ modules to build and create your own community.
Special Ning features developed with the help of ex-ning users who have already migrated.
Friendly Support with a user forum and fantastic hosting.

They said this was going to be "easy". hee hee.

Ning NT is fairly huge. Huge ! It's gonna take a while.

No worries.

Here is what happened. When we went to upload all of our discussions here, the download was corrupted, so we had to redo it. I never knew we talked so much, LOL.

I have been informed, that we are the single largest download they have ever taken on. I guess we talk a lot.... a real lot, LOL. Also had a lot of customization, since Jamroom started out as a music platform, hence the name. They have never dealt with a forum format before.

I don't own a server, so I am renting space on Jamrooms' server... but at least I will never have to worry again that I could lose all our info like I did with Grouply, and could have, with Ning (as we can tell from how glitchy the site has become). Also the benefit of using a server service is that they attend to your needs better.

Easy.... not so much with us. Friendly support, for sure!

Thanks for the update

I confirmed my settings allow for emails and search through my spam folder and to date no email - is it possible to have it resent when (if) you get a spare moment in the near future

Thanks again for all your hard work on this transition - I am sure all members echo those thanks

Ning has become glitchy in the extreme over the last several months. Maybe they aren't maintaining it like they used to. When I first joined, things ran very well. Now not so much. I figure Jamroom will get more and more Ning refugees as time passes.

The single most thing I hope and pray for with the new platform: I would dearly like to be able to take the stuff I have no interest off the tracker entirely. Like Newsvine does. (Sorry for the Nv reference, but it's a nice feature.)

Thanks again
