What would happen if the United States accidentally shot down a jetliner like Iran apparently did this week?
There's no need to speculate, as Fox News' Geraldo Rivera just pointed out.
The hosts of Fox & Friends on Friday discussed news that officials believe the Ukrainian passenger plane that crashed near Tehran earlier this week, killing 176 people, was mistakenly shot down by Iran. "Can you imagine if the United States of America accidentally shot down a jetliner," Steve Doocy asked.
"Well, you know Steve, we did in 1988," Geraldo Rivera noted, referring to Iran Air Flight 655, which in July of that year was mistakenly shot down by the USS Vincennes in the Persian Gulf, killing 290 people.

What I disturbing is the lack of knowledge of our history and it's effects on other countries.
Several times this weekend people have questioned why something that happened 32 years ago matters.
Hell the Iranians are still pissed about WWII, WWI and the Crusades.
Well not to defend Doocey but Capt Will Rogers would argue the word "accidently".
To this day he has not admitted error or apologized to Iran. He ignored a July 2019 request to finally do so.
He adamantly stuck to his story that he was being dived on by an Iranian F-14
while in reality the Iranian 737 was climbing.
After Iran sued the U.S. government, the suit was settled in 1996, and the U.S. paid $62 million.
From WallyW's Wikipedia link;
We originally offered less than $26,000 per victim, much less actually I believe the number was odd, like $25,001 per victim
and a back channel apology. Iran refused insisting on a public apology which was eventually done by VP George H Bush
who had also been the first to reach out to Iran in 1988 to express his deepest condolences.
That amt. is a bit strange. I don't have time to google it now but I'm wondering if they did that so that they could honestly say that we offered "more than 25 K".
LOL!
