Gene Hackman got started as a movie star a little late. He got his breakthrough role in Bonnie and Clyde when he was 37 years old.
He's been a tremendous actor ever since though and has a large body of work playing intelligent, often intense characters usually in some position of authority.
I've watched many of his movies, most recently Crimson Tide, Superman and The Mexican. He has the knack of being absolutely believable in his characterizations.
