Massive 'murmuration' of starlings in Israel's skies
A mesmerising ballet of starlings was spotted above the skies in southern Israel, near the town of Rahat.
The murmuration of migrating birds made dazzling formations in the sky as it moved north on Thursday.
It is believed the birds fly in the distinctive oozing pattern to protect themselves from predators.
Some formations can be made up of up to 250,000 birds.
It is a most wonderful experience to have watched that, so well matched with Johann Pachelbel's Canon. I have never before seen anything like that. It made me wonder how the people thousands of years ago before they might have understood scientific reasons for such a display would have reacted to it.
(P.S. Thanks for guiding me to a source where I could watch it.)
Thanks for the heads up jwc. I'll make sure to catch it!
Glad that I could find it for you Buzz. The search on tudou is a bit obtuse.
I see lots billions of badfish eating all the goodfish in the future OMG! I just can't stand it.
BF, get a grip, or I'm going to turn you into a pillar of salt.
Amazing display, good article Perrie.
We always seem to have huge flocks of black birds down around Hopkinsville in the late fall-- I love to watch them "murmuring"! It's hard to avoid hitting them, sometimes, but if you can pull over and just watch them, it's great!
